Visiting April 1st.

Freebie from Josh Helmholdt at Rivals:

https://n.rivals.com/news/2019-de-karlaftis-ready-to-break-onto-the-scene

The next offer, though, could come from Notre Dame, where Karlaftis plans to visit on April 1. Assistant coach Mike Elston has told the rising junior they project him as a J.J. Watt-type: someone who can move around the front seven and attack from a variety of positions.

That's gotta get your attention.

I would like to see him get offered this weekend and have the 2019 class start with him and Jacob Lacey. Keep hammering down that d-line and front 7.

Trumbetti was meant to be JJ Watt-like

I don't remember that ever bieng the case. When has he ever been considered as a player you could move inside or have stand up and rush the passer? As far as I remember, he's always been considered a hand in the dirt DE.

I thought Trumbetti stood up a lot as a freshman and turned into an OLB sometimes, which essentially allowed the front 7 to turn into a 3-4. It was a good master plan for his "versatility," but his development was never realized.

He has never lined up inside, though.

Too bad Trumbetti wasn't an Freshman EE right now to see what the last staff left on the table. I would have bet the house he was going to be better than he has turned out so far.

But Trumbetti was 6'1-ish.

Typo? I've stood eye to eye with him and he's 6-4 in shoes.

That's weird. I really don't remember him ever standing up. When they had him up, was it as a pass rusher?

huh?

Wooly,

I was incorrect. He always looks so much shorter than the rest of the DL but I just checked the roster and it says 6'4. Must be an optical illusion, the pleats or something.

Generally I think so, but I recall him playing zone coverage in the flats a lot after standing up pre-snap.

Or perhaps I'm just conflating the many poor attempts at zone blitzes that saw Trumbetti flailing around, trying to chase a route-runner.

Trumbetti was recruited by Diaco to be a CAT LB. So the intention was, essentially, 50/50 3-4 ROLB/WDE.

Im with you, but from what's been posted in this thread already it looks like he may be more into Miami than ND

He's got a good combination of size, strength and speed for a sophomore. He plays with his hands on his sides too often in the highlight film. I'm not sure if he's fatigued (could be if he plays offense as well as defense/kickoff/special teams) or if he just needs to work on technique. It allows blockers to get inside on him and he is still able to shed and find the ball. He's going to wreck people if he learns how to use his hands/arms to his advantage.

He's said he'll commit to Miami if they offer... and they will. So expect him to commit to the Hurricanes.

BUT it's a long process and he may get down there and find the culture is not to his liking vs ND or other nearby B1G schools and at some point he may feel it's better to be by the ones who're still here.

"Miami is where I want to go," Karalftis told 247Sports' Tom Loy at check-in for the U.S. Army National Combine in San Antonio on Thursday. "My family wants me to got to either Purdue, Indiana or Notre Dame, but I want to go to Miami. Growing up I always watched Miami games with my dad. That's really where I want to go. If they offered me, I would commit there in a heart beat."

Hurricanes Legacy Karlaftis Interested in Miami

Wow, 328 sure looks like he has somewhere better to be

Yeah, Notre Dame.

That's John Waggoner, the #83 player in the country (per 247 and too high IMO) whose dream school is ND.

Must have seen an ND analyst taking film and got depressed.

He's standing in as an offensive linemen for a drill. He's a top DE recruit. There lucky he is doing it at all.

When I see video of him I simply don't get what our staff's deal is with him. Did Waggoner hit on Paqui or something?

The good news is he'll probably go on to be an all big ten DE for 2 of his 4 years while we continue to complain how we can't recruit DE.

I'm going to continue giving Elko the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they know something we don't...but doubtful. We are ISD, we know everything!!!!!!!
