I like Prister. I like that whole crew actually. But I hope he's wrong here.

Driskell is by far the biggest gas bag, IMO. Everything he says/does he turns the drama meter to full volume.

problem with BGI is they podcast way way too much and thus i think their message is totally diluted. it makes everything Driskell says sound like waffle/stuck on repeat IMO.

II is the best ND podcast i reckon.

I don't know when Prister became a talent evaluator, but I can't wait until he is proved wrong. He's quickly turning into my least favorite ND talking head.

Driskell's problem is that he's rude.

He has a good voice, knows football well, and has coherent positions. He also really seems to enjoy ND football, whether they are 8-4 or 11-1. I really like him at his best.

But he literally can't abide anyone else talking, and won't let Somogyi talk for more than 30 seconds without taking the mike back. He needs to discipline himself and accept the fact that he doesn't need to get the last word in on every subject. If nothing else, IT'S BAD RADIO! If he actually asked Lou for his opinion on something and then listened for a minute or two, their recording equipment might explode. He'll let Lou be the history guy, and rush 100 mph through an occasional story, but that's it. Lou seems resigned to that role at this point.

Driskell also needs to accept the fact that he's wrong sometimes--or that someone else can make a good point. He corrects/contradicts Somogyi so constantly (as if there is an objective right and wrong to a lot of this stuff) that its embarrassing. It would be refreshing to hear him say, "Good point, you changed my mind on that" occasionally. (I'm sure he's done it once, and if you brought this up he's point to that one time as if it disproved the overwhelming pattern.)

If he did those things, he could be very good, IMO.

Somogyi has the worst radio personality/voice of all time. Dude is constantly mumbling. It’s like listening to a sleep therapy tape for me.

I want to say it was the 247 podcast that brought him up again today and that he isn't of size but seems to be pretty much at his ceiling. Great HSFB player but how much can he actually develop? That was the idea behind the "Why take him at this point" thought.

They did say, with Asa going to Washington, if Sinclair did not end up at ND it made sense.

Long story short, he's expected to not be a contributor by the talking heads... which makes me optimistic!

I've always wondered where they get this information. They wouldn't get this from his high school coach or the Notre Dame staff. I just don't see how you can watch anyone's tape and say "yup, he's already peaked and won't ever get better". Sounds like to me they pulled this out of their ass.

If anyone hasn't peaked... and has the higher ceiling, it's the ONLY guy who can run the 100m in under 11 seconds.

and as far as not having the size... simply look at his Dad and Bro's. It's not rocket science.

ANY kid who's 6-1.5/215 going into his Sr year can be 240lbs 3 years later. Duh.

Nice interview with Lea where he says they look at the measurables (handsize/arm length/ height/etc)and have the strength and conditioning coach give the thumbs up or thumbs down with what they can do with a recruit.

Don't under-estimate the possibilities. Kiser is fast. You can't teach fast.

Yep, you can't teach fast. You can tweak it a little, but you're basically born with your speed.

I know this is the normal take on speed....but my take is ......people who aren't born with an abundance of fast twitch muscle....do very little to develop it.

At university, I was OL and showed up as a freshman and ran a less than respectable 5.2.

But I worked heavily on the plyometric program that the sprint coach developed and got my 40 down sub 4.8 by my senior year....while adding 55lbs.

My training partner was the FS and he went from high 4.7's to low 4.5 during the same time. All the other oline spent tons of time in the gym, but mostly focusing on lifting.

These subscription sites really need to boost their revenue from marketing so customers don't have to pay for it. This is bogus. I guess they don't get enough hits however the way I am sure some of us hit up 247, Rivals, etc they should be able to.

Well, that's actually the opposite business model of The Athletic. They're trying to go ad-free and provide sports writing content of the highest quality in lieu of click bait and "viral" content that depends on the number of page views.

In return, they charge a monthly subscription fee. We'll see if it works out for them.

I'm a fan and was extremely surprised that they got Sampson on board. I would guess that him leaving II means that the Athletic model is working somewhat.

I think it means they pay well. That's all. I believe it was discussed in another thread somewhere they they currently arent turning profits.

That would be my thinking as well. And I'd assume quite a bit more.

Yes, deifinitely the pay is a big part of it.

I have been told that the ability to write for quality has been a BIG attraction for writers (much of sports journalism has been commoditized or secondary to video/etc as LAX stated; this was echoed by Stewart Mandel's write-up on why he decided to join The Athletic)

It's $30 a year. Quit bitching and subscribe. There is no money in web advertising to support quality journalism.
