Turns out you don’t have to punt when you turn the ball over.
Not sure why there is sarcasm here.

Good to see another above average special teams recruit.
What do you mean by above average?
John Shannon was the #2 ranked LS by Chris Sailer
Tyler Newsome was the #4 ranked P by Kohl’s Kicking
Justin Yoon was the #1 ranked K by Kohl’s Kicking
Jay Bramblett is the #1 ranked P by Chris Sailer
Seems like ND is getting the best special teamers out there. Once they get on campus and develop maybe their not the best in the entire FBS but they certainly recruiting the best special teamers out of high school.
I can't recall a game where our K/P actually cost us the game. They've been very good in the Kelly era. There will always be some misses here and there.
Emphasis on that part. Some of us were still in school when Brandon Walker was our kicker. *shudder*
We're hardly ever at 85, and the kicking game can win/lose games. Nothing wrong with using a few scholarships every other year..... and ranked #61 FEI on special teams, I'm good with stud punters and kickers.
Once we start destroying SEC defenses, and holding shitty ACC offenses, perhaps I'll become more stingy.
Welcome aboard Jay!
Don't.
During the Holtz era, Lou had great string of success with walk-on kickers although for most of his ND years he had more than 85 scholarships available (higher NCAA limits). Around '94 he offered a kid from Argentina a walk-on slot as PK. The kid asked for a scholarship. Lou said no. The kid went to some school in Manhattan, KS. A terrible career football program but they offered him a free ride. Kid made All-American twice while Holtz was suffering place kicker woes. His name was Gramatica.
Sometimes it pays not to be stingy.

Perfect career: Zero punts for the Irish in 4 season, academic All-American each year, followed by a grand transfer to the Skunkbears where he puts together a hall of fame worthy season, winning the Ray Guy award.
Needs to be added to the Front Page list of commits
I knew this was coming. Already done.
Tuscaloosa (Ala.) Hillcrest three-star punter Jay Bramblett showed up at a recent FBU Top Gun camp with the goal to get better and find himself in consideration for an invitation to the All-American Bowl.
Following his workout, he achieved his goals. For his efforts, the 6-2, 175-pounder was named to the All-American Bowl and he’ll take part in the prestigious game in San Antonio following his senior season.
“It’s awesome. It’s a dream come true,” said Bramblett. “You grow up watching college football and all the guys going into college are playing in the All-American games and this one is a big deal. Everyone knows about it.”
Bramblett committed to Notre Dame back on May 30 over schools such as Alabama, LSU, Mississippi State, Missouri and Penn State. There is a lot of tradition and history between the All-American Bowl and the Fighting Irish. Bramblett is excited to keep that going in 2019.
“You got to keep the tradition going,” said Bramblett, the nation’s No. 2 punter in the class of 2019 according to 247Sports. “We have some really, really talented players and the recruiting classes coming in are amazing. They are in the top, up there with the schools just as big as them. It doesn’t get any bigger than that. It’s amazing.
“I’m excited about a big crowd,” added Bramblett. “I’m excited to play on NBC and in front of everybody. It’s awesome.”
At the time of his pledge, Bramblett went in-depth with Irish Illustrated about why he decided to commit to Notre Dame. In the end, it was an easy decision.
“My major thing was that it’s a place I can be successful at after college,” said Bramblett. “I want to be successful in life and I felt as though Notre Dame gives me the best chance at success.”
He made it clear that his connection with special teams coordinator Brian Polian factored into his decision. Bramblett really hit it off with Polian during his visit and he couldn’t pass on suiting up for the Irish at the next level.
“Coach Polian played a major part in my decision,” said Bramblett. He’s an awesome guy, a first-class guy. He’s a great coach, but beyond that, he’s a great guy. He’s a guy you can talk to and I know he’ll be there for me and help me through everything.”
Bramblett couldn’t be more fired up about his future at Notre Dame. But he isn’t the only one excited about what’s to come.
“They were excited for me,” said Bramblett. “They understand everything that comes with me going there and all of the benefits from going there. They understand that Notre Dame will help me succeed and the schools has everything we’ve been looking for in a school.”
With starting punter Tyler Newsome graduating after this season, Bramblett is expected to be the starter as a true freshman in South Bend upon arrival.
This is a great pickup for us, I'm excited to have him on board.
Agree, we haven't had a super stud punter in a while.

Where's the fifth star?!?!
