I can't blame the guy.
Look at all the below average to no name QB's who started or played meaningful mintues in at least one game in the NFL this season.

Stay healthy, get a head start on training for combine / draft workouts.
Best of luck to him. I never felt like I was watching an NFL caliber arm or QB this season, but Tim Boyle started two meaningful games this year for an NFL franchise so if Sam makes a team he will likely get a chance eventually because of injury / circumstances.

Not necessarily. It’s a glorified practice game. I’d honestly like to see each play a half. That said, I can see where that would peeve Angeli.
It’s more than a glorified practice game. It’s more like game 1 of 2024.

I was worried about this but to be honest, I wouldn't want to go up against that Oregon State defense either. They allow less than 250 Passing YPG and almost have an 8% sack rate. If I am a QB getting ready for the draft I'd be worried of my stock dropping after this game. Just sucks because I really want to beat them. Seems like their fans are buying a lot of tickets to the game so it would have been a tough atmosphere for Hartman.

Imagine getting black out drunk on Coors Light’s after seeing your boys get snuff filmed by back ups,…

Opting out of a bowl to play in an even more meaningless senior bowl will never make sense to me
Yeah, I'm confused on this one. There is more than enough tape for NFL people of him to see. I don't understand why he feels he needs to play in this game. What is the overall strategy in that?

I have heard other players talk about the practice time for this bowl being the most important part of the week. They are being coached by actual NFL coaches and the goal is too make good impressions to help build your resume'. I would think a guy like Sam could really use that time to show coaches some of his intangibles. Sam may be on the cusp of not getting drafted and this could be a boost for him.

Thank you.

my assumption was it had something to do with NFL eyes at the Senior Bowl vs a bowl game. Good stuff.

Someone (maybe Kiper) had Sam rated number 8 QB coming into this draft. That probably concerns Sam enough to want to take the best interfacing road that he can to get NFL opinions into a higher ceiling mode. As the poster above said: several practice sessions tryout opportunity?

Although his interview at the bowl game did sound odd at the time, maybe he actually did sit out the bowl game to give Angeli his time to shine.
I don't buy it. In the Wake Forest post game presser, he was adamant about playing in the bowl game.

The Senior Bowl is one of the marquee events for the NFL Draft. Probably second to the Combine in terms of importance.

Not many "top top" guys go, but it's a great way to move from the lower rounds into a Day 1/2 slot. Great decision by Hartman to go there and compete.

Depending on who comes out, 8th seems generous. He could wind up there on the board in a few months, though.
