really think he's the #3 QB in the class behind Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields. Lawrence might be the best HS QB prospect since Matt Stafford. Fields is one of the rare few dual threat QB prospects who can actually throw the ball at a high level. Jurkovec slots in right behind those guys, and Dorian Thompson-Robinson, Emory Jones, Justin Rogers, Tanner McKee, and Matt Corral are not better than him. They're just not. Major holes in every one of those guys.

QB rankings and OL rankings are usually completely wonky. These guys who rate them are pretty much terrible at rating those two positions.

If you look ahead 4 years, Lawrence might project better as a NFL prospect but that doesn't make him a better college QB prospect nor even a perfect fit for the offense that Deshaun Watson and Kelly Bryant excelled in. Phil's a much better fit in Clemson's office than Lawrence is.

As far as Fields, there is no evidence that says he's better than Phil. Phil out produced him in every category and did it against the best/highest competition in his state unlike Fields... and Lawrence for that matter. Phil's just a 6-6 version of Fields who doesn't have 4.5 speed but Phil has top speed which Kizer showed us is more important for a QB who runs second. Fields may be the next Watson or Winston but his senior year of HS leaves him Phil's bridesmaid.

Kevin interviewed his coach 2 hours ago:
https://247sports.com/college/notre-dame/Article/Phil-Jurkovec-caps-off-stellar-career-with-state-title-112084621

Notre Dame quarterback commitment Phil Jurkovec capped off a stellar high school career on Saturday night with a state championship. His five touchdowns in the 41-21 win proved to be too much for the No. 8 program in the country, St. Joseph’s.

St. Joseph’s rolled into Hershey undefeated with plenty of confidence and the talent to back it up. According to Pine-Richland quarterback coach Todd Jochem, Pine-Richland was not intimidated.

“The sense was we were going to win,” Jochem said. “A lot of teams get the sense that they’re losing once St. Joseph’s Prep steps off the bus. These kids were like, ‘it don’t matter. We’re going to take it to ‘em, we’re going to play our game and we’re going to win.”

The Rams’ confidence started with trust in Jurkovec.

Early in the night, the Irish commit put a dagger in the Pittsburgh Prep program and continued to pour on crucial plays throughout the night.

“It’s sort of funny,” Jochem said. “It was probably (Jurkovec’s) greatest game he ever played but statistically it was probably his worst game he’s played this year, in terms of yards and completion percentage. But every time we needed a big play, he made it.”

With a snow-covered field and several players (including Jurkovec) still shaking off flu symptoms, the Rams certainly had their share of adversity. But Jurkovec displayed his best on Saturday, which proved to be too much for the St. Joseph’s defense.

The 6-foot-5, 215-pound senior threw 16-for-26 for 191 yards and one touchdown while rushing for 84 yards and four touchdowns.

“The touchdowns he scored, it was like little kids bouncing off him as he was rambling to the end zone,” Jochem said. “In the pass game, obviously the weather wasn’t great and he wasn’t at his best, but when we needed it most, there were two main plays. There was a third-and-seventeen. And he threw a skinny post to number five. That was a big, big conversion. And then about two plays later, we were in empty formation and he didn’t quite get the play right, scrambles to his right and he gets waylaid right in the chin and throws a laser, to my son, right as he gets hit. That’s what put St. Joe’s away. It’s crazy to see on film. It was a laser.”

Pine-Richland rigorously prepared for Saturday night. What they faced was what they expected.

“What (St. Joseph’s Prep) did is what they did against Coatesville and against Parkland,” Jochem said. “Their game plan was to eat us up on first and second downs and play nickel on later downs. We made some adjustments in the run game on early downs.

“They were so concerned with guys getting outside of them and Phil just cut up inside them, at least two of the touchdown runs were like that.

“They were a good team. They did what we thought they were going to do. We just kind of figured it out and our kids made plays. Phil’s obviously great but we have ten other guys on our offense that just buy in completely what we’re doing, and they made it happen too.”

On Pine-Richland’s defensive side of the ball, Jochem reported dominance.

“(The Pine-Richland defense) played by far their best game of the year against a Top 10 team in the country and physically dominated them,” Jochem said. “It may be hard to see on TV but they were just bringing the lumber on these kids. It was awesome.”

With the state championship stats tallied, Jurkovec finished his senior season with 246 completions on 336 attempts (73.2 completions percentage) for 3,960 yards and 39 passing touchdowns to just six interceptions.

He added 1,220 rushing yards on 134 carries (10.9 yards per carry) and 24 rushing touchdowns.

“That’s going to be Notre Dame’s starting quarterback, period. There’s no doubt about it,” Jochem said.

Yeah I ended up going on that Irish tailban website or whatever you call it and that Bill Norgberg guy was claiming Phil is going to decommitt because our QB coach sucks, and I ended up saying his source is stupid and there is no way in hell Phil decommits unless something drastic happens, then another guy starting arguing with me then they blocked me after I said when Phil signs with us I'll come back laughing. Anyways it's pretty much a site for a bunch of whinny fans everytime we lose a kid like the DT from Utah who in their eyes was down to us and Washington even though we haven't had contact with him in months they start bitching that kelly needs to be fired and it won't change until he is lol.

Kelly being fired IMO is an accurate opinion.

However i don't believe that Phil is a risk at leaving at all. And when he does signing here i will join them to laugh at them for you!

I went in there to see what the group was all about...

That has to be the worst Facebook group in the history of Facebook groups.

It's like NDNation's douchier, younger brother, and with worse grammar.

I'm embarrassed for anyone that is or has been a part of that group voluntarily... and I say that as a guy that hangs out on a message board so much that he's a moderator.

Those two guys reminded me of some old dudes who are big time fans but bitch and moan when they go to games because people are standing or the music isn't to their liking

Great to hear. The comments are mostly negative anyway. I think I shall depart that group.

Good decision.
IMO this is the best free board for ITK people. News has dropped here before anywhere else.

NDN for as much grief as we give them (and it's well earned grief) has some as well, but they have a reputation for a reason.

At this point, I would settle for a retro brey mock turtleneck. Anything is better than what they are sporting.

Don't expect this kid to come in and start day one, but I'm VERY excited to see how he progresses over the next couple of years. This kid was built for this offense. I think we're in a great spot at the position for the next few years.
