well, the insult is "hey Justin your not good enough". The double insult is "your brothers good enough though - he is really good. We want him so bad we will even take you".

Don't underestimate the cunningness of Pope Urban. Once they relent and offer Justin, they will spin the scenario as such that the twins will have no choice but commit. Urban will give the passive-aggressive ND spiel to convince them it's no longer a contender on the national scene.

I see what you are saying about the disrespect but this isn't Meyer & Co. first rodeo. This comes down to the twins making a 40-yr decision or not.

Its pretty smart they re apply the screws just after the draft with all those $$ signs still floating around.

Really? How is that insulting? It's OSU they recruit the best of the best no matter where they are from. They don't need the luxury to offer a prospect they want and offer someone close to or like a brother just to get them. They get a lot of top guys they want so if they don't want Justin but do want Jayson how is it disrespectful to not offer the other one?

IMO Jayson and Justin will go to the same school, it's bad news for ND IMO because maybe they are going to try and get Justin an offer.

They very well could value Jayson so much that they will offer Justin just to land Jayson. The other possibility is they are fading on some other DT and want to make sure they get Jayson and will offer Justin to make it happen.

He's a cornerstone of the class, they've gotta keep him. Larry Johnson loves Jayson, but they've gotta land both of the Ade twins

This is so old I don't even have the energy to react to it anymore... ND has a 'cornerstone' defensive recruit... he commits early... and......... you know the rest.

They become the best player in their draft class until they suffer a tragic injury in their last game playing for Notre Dame?

Not really anything else ND can do here, accept win on the field. We've made them a HUGE priority for the last year now. We were in on both well before most. Heck, we made them a huge priority coming down the closing stretches of the 2017 class.

If they truly make the visit and work out for Justin to get the offer, then it's probably time the staff start identifying other options. Really nothing else can be done. Actions speak louder than words, and Justin's words say something different, we'll see what his actions are.

I get all that, just saying this recent development surprises me as much as the sun coming up this morning... ND and defensive recruiting is by far the largest single reason why I don't follow recruiting like I once did... it too often feels like the smoking hot girl you've chased for years finally letting you take her to prom only for her to leave you at the gym for a 3some with some guy who already had another date.

I doubt that's the problem. They have #1 DT committed and have 100% of the CB's for #4 DT who they've led for since Day 1. They'll be able to sign more 4 star DT's than they can take. If they offer both it's out of pure gluttony and that you first sentence is correct.

It's even better than that. Ade Sr. and Coach Hansen targeted ND.

I think the Twins stay with ND as long as Ade Sr. sees ND's... Early playing time + Coaching/NFL development + 40 year benefits continuing to be > coaching/NFL development of other playoff caliber teams.

I saw a little clip of two OSU commits last year talking about their decision. Urban is very much using the 40 year decision in their pitch, almost exactly the way ND does. IMO he has taken that away as a recruiting advantage for us.

No, he hasn't. We just need to do a better job of supporting ours with facts like, graduation rates of African American students.

Unless they actually start doing a better job of educating their players, it will never not be an advantage for ND, its just up to our staff to make sure they show the differences. There is still clearly a value proposition that ND offers, that OSU doesn't. It's about explaining that, and finding the right prospects that want that.

Remember when Florida had the best grad rates in the country???

As I've mentioned before, staffs from around the country, think he is one of the best DT's. Not just top 10 but top 3-5. Including OSU's.

For all the heat that ND's staff takes from the fanbase for being late to the party, they should get a TON of credit for being early here. Now we just need to hang on.

Edit: Somewhat important note is that 247 has been pretty adamant that we'll sign the twins, as long as we don't take too many DL in this class. Early playing time at ND is a big plus, and that needs to remain an advantage. It sounds like the numbers are 2 DT's and 2DE's with Mustipher being a 3rd DT as a possibility.

In this case I'm OK with that, but either way are we going to take many DLs who are better? What are they worried about?

I think Wiltfong said OSU thinks he's the best DT in the country.
If Larry frigging Johnson thinks he's the top DT, that speaks volumes of his talent.

For sure, when he committed I thought he was a solid 4* prospect and somebody that was just going to be a solid player but now it sounds like the kid has really put in the work and is coming off a major junior season in which his play has seen him sky rocket in the rankings. Could he be a 5* at the end of the cycle? Every month it seems like more and more people are talking about him and after Urban and Saban offered that really did it for me in terms of we got a freaking stud here. I think landing him and hopefully landing Lacey next cycle could really, really freaking help make us a stout front 7 learning under Elko. Just need to hold off the Meyer crazy train and land Lacey and I think we got two future first round picks at DT with Elko coaching these guys up.

I find it hard to believe they would say that when they have the #1 DT committed, and they led for him wire to wire. That's potential suicide.

Are the brothers enrolling early??

They want to but St Peter's Prep doesn't allow early graduation.

It wouldn't surprise me if the family pulled a Tate Martell and enrolled in a local public school at the end of fall semester to graduate in December.
