With Alohi and Myron on the roster, we could have three Polynesians on the defense, at the same time. Very cool. Has that ever happened at ND?

Probably not. The Mormon preponderance and the distance to commute ... 4,318 mi (as someone noted recently) and counting, tended to have most Polynesians staying on the West Coast in past decades.

Manti and Polian made ND household words in the Pacific. ND probably hasn't been that well known since Frank Leahy was teaching Islanders the Victory March back in WWII.

not a very good offers list and not the most impressive highlight film either, ND can do better.

He impressed Elko in person at Irish Invasion and has had a good senior season. Jamie at ISD considers Moala a solid 4 star prospect.

???

What film did you watch? His Pop Warner highlights?

No kidding. I thought his tape looked pretty good.

I was more concerned that he plays for Penn, so how accurate are the highlights? Were they against teams that were severely outmatched?

Either way, I trust that when they saw him in person they knew it was a good offer. Local low-hanging fruit. Welcome to ND.

To be fair, Jamie gave him a 90-rating, the lowest possible for a 4-star player given their rankings.

No problem with this kid being offered and becoming Irish because of Derrik Allen. Bringing in one elite player at every position is what ND needs to shoot for. They have that at safety with Allen.

We have for next season:

Nick Watkins RS SR
Nick Coleman SR
Nicco Fetitta SR
Shaun Crawford RS JR
Donte Vaughn JR
Troy Pride Jr. JR
Julian Love JR
Jalen Elliott JR
Devin Studstill JR
DJ Morgan RS SO
Alohi Gilman RS SO
Isaiah Robertson SO
Jordan Genmark-Heath RS FR
Derrick Allen FR
Paul Moala FR

That’s 15 DB’s for next season. How many are they looking to take in this class? 3-4 guys? Or is it more 4-5 guys cause they expect a transfer or two?

Stunning how some folks think they can assess talent better than the best defensive coach in the country who personally watched the player play.

Humility thy name ain't IE.

I think that you're a great prospect young man, and welcome to ND.

Pretty sure Tranquill will have eligibility left too, due to his injuries.

They have more than enough safeties. A transfer or two would not surprise me.

They need 3 CB's but using one scholarship on Moala and one for Tremble leaves the team really really tight.

Still need three from the growing CB list.

Ideal squad numbers have 4 DB recruits per year (even though you don't expect them all to stick.) The reason for going "complete replacement numbers" here in recruiting is that these guys are so valuable on special teams.

All of our guys sticking (so far) is an embarrassment of riches, but (if it was my choice) I'd recruit a full boat anyway, just because of STs and the somewhat regular shifting we have from Defense to Offense and vice versa. If you're flush with DBs (as we currently are), you fill up with good'uns and then wait for a Superman at the last minute. If so, overload.

Edit: overload is a misnomer in modern football because of the shift to speed defense with nickels and dimes.

May as well throw Solomon-Tuliaupupu in there at drop, make it 4. Just sayin.

I mean his film looks fine and I don't doubt that elko likes what he sees, but if he's as good as some think why is only the MAC recruiting this kid.

He got an Iowa offer and I think was only interested in a few schools. I believe the plan was to get out to Stanford for an offer, but I don't think that's happening now

He has, I believe, an "official" 40 time of 4.7, but it was reported that during the Irish Invasion he ran below 4.5. Maybe programs were put off by the "official" number, which Kelly/Elko saw as not reality.

Think more like Zibby who can thump from the back end, get the INT and excel in the return game. He has 8 PR/KR TD's in his Jr/Sr seasons plus 10 Int's, 4 of which were Pick-6's.
