I suspect ND won’t have as many in the box vs SC as they did vs UGA so Stepp may have an easier row to hoe than Swift did.

EXACTLYBK already said he can't put younger inexperienced db's in a position to fail against usc

USC's OL is also much worse than UGA, and Stepp while good is not Swift.

Yeah I dont worry about him very much this year. Developmental wise he may be tough in a couple of years to handle. But being USC and the LA culture, he may not even be around by then.

I really dislike how people say he was a one time ND commit while leaving out that he couldnt qualify was the reason he isnt at ND today. Not that he just woke up and thought USC was the place he wanted to be.

Has that been confirmed? I just hadn't seen that printed anywhere as the reason he didn't attend ND.

Nothing was ever printed that I know of but he did decommit because he could not get passed admissions. IIRC he was pretty upset when he did decommit.

Thanks guys. Hate it for him that he couldn't get in then. Got to be tough not being able to play where your heart is at. Makes the commit to USC puzzling however. Either way, I wish him well... after Saturday.

He had a connection to the running back coach there, which is how it all got worked out quickly. It makes sense too because USC still plays big time football and is a good school. I expect Stepp to have a big game.

Really sad example of our extra recruiting burden ... kid seemed like a good guy AND a real stud. I'll get thumbs down for this but it is my belief that Stepp would be starting for us by now (assuming he can handle the non-running elements of the offense.)

He has looked good in the games I have seen him in. Still stinks that he is on the wrong sidelines. As far as the game, I think USC sticks around for a bit but the Irish use the late third, early fourth to pull away. Good luck and beat them for T Town.

Markese's dad and SC's 2017 RB coach Deland McCullough are close friends from their playing days at Miami U. McCullough took the RB coach for the Chiefs in '18.

Thanks. Didn't know that but a couple of other posters out here eluded to the same. So Stepp goes there and the RB coach leaves for the Pro's. Ouch.

He’s still a major running back at USC. He’ll be OK. I wish the kid was Irish, but he certainly landed on his feet.

Hopefully, he'll land on his back on short or even no gain runs this Sat. though.

According to SC beat writers, the fans have been clamoring for Stepp to get the lion’s share of touches. I think the SC staff has concerns about his pass protection thus far. According to PFF, Stepp has only been on the field once for pass pro. The rest of his reps were on running plays. All that being said, I fully expect to hear his name a lot this Saturday.

Maybe he has a sick grandmother and wants to transfer to ND to be closer to her
/sarcasm off

Trying to recall the last time a sick grandmother worked in ND's favor... Who was the slot received who transferred in from Stanford? Was it him?

Amir Carlisle. No, his dad took a job in Indiana somewhere if memory serves me right, wanted to be closer to family.

He signed with USC, but his father got the S&C coach job at Purdue shortly afterwards.

Sarcasm yes, but it could happen. He will be out most of this year. USC has more talent (by stars) among their RBs. After taking some easy SC classes, he would likely be eligible to transfer in. Also he could be the thunder (after Tony Jones graduates to the lightening we are recruiting. Oh well, I can dream can't I? And if it happens I will now be a prophet.

Would take, regardless of the logjam it might create in the backfield. Competition's a good thing and this dude ran angry nasty downhill against us in 19. Can always find a place for that.

Dang. The only game I saw him play was against us last season and I thought he was great. Could he be eligible straight away?

I would think he wants to go somewhere and be the guy. For us, I think he'd be a great late game closer but is he going to be happy with that role. I don't see him taking many carries from Kyren. I would think Tyree's role will only grow. Does he take the C'Bo carries? C'Bo was at 57 carries on the year. So maybe that plus 10-20?
