Meant to post this earlier but forgot. This bump reminded me of it.

Universidad del Sur de California v. Université de Norte Dame.

The year is 2099. Illiterates at the former misinterpreted "notre" as "norte" so often that it stuck. The true origins of the football team who plays for the "Northern Lady" are lost to time, much like the townspeople of Sandy Bowitz in A Canticle of Leibowitz who have no idea that their town was originally named after Saint Leibowitz.

well stepp will probably be getting all the carries he wants at NU. still think he'd be great at iowa.

My cousin (has kids that played with MS) knows the family. I was told there were supposedly a few teams the family was looking at IIRC over break. IU was one, and the one I was really hoping for. Oh well. I do know it wasn't for lack of love of ND he ended up at USC. He's a good kid, and good family. Wish him the best.

i'd be pretty meh on this destination if i was in his camp.

It really isn’t a horrible decision. Nebraska has a serious problem with RB depth, and he will probably start day one. If he starts he probably won’t be giving up too many carries to other backs, which could help him pad the stats.

Hopefully he has success and gets a degree! Seems like a good kid.

their offense does not really suit his talents though. Heck he could go to Illinois and be productive there in Bielema's offense

He fits just fine. I would imagine Frost recruited him to play there because he feels he fits as well. I can’t speak to the RB situation at Illinois because I don’t follow the program, but at Nebraska I would be surprised if he doesn’t start day 1.

Reminds me a lot of Devine Ozigbo who ran for 1000 yards in Nebraska’s 2018 offense. Very similar players IMO.

Sure. So does Illinois...and a lot of other teams. The basic premise of your comment was that the offense didn’t “suit” his talents. They had a RB with a very similar skill set and frame/build the last two years. He is the exact profile they recruit and have used in their offense.

Now if you just think he should have went to a better school, I can’t disagree with you there. Sounds like he was offered by Wisconsin which is orders of magnitude better.

He should've went and played for Chuck Martin, been a Redskin like his Dad and chased co-eds uptown on High St. A tradition like no other.

Grad transfer? Deland McCullough played with Stepp’s dad at Miami U. and steered him to USC when he was RB coach there.

Kid has made it through one season of football in 7 years.
He was injured 3 out of 4 years in HS & all 3 years in college.

He could be helpful in a time of need, provided he could get in the door at this point. If he’s currently healthy and could play a few snaps why not.

I’d being willing to bet he gets at least a glance if nothing more, considering our current depth.

Coming out of HS, one of the concerns was his academics too.
He had been told what he needed to do to apply & by midway through his Senior year he had not shown it was going to happen.
That played a big role, in combination with his injury history, in ND moving on from him.

I think he truly loved ND but not enough to get his academics in order. He was a very vocal recruiter when he was committed to the Irish, it’s a shame it didn’t work out differently.

we are in need at RB. Give him some consideration if he can qualify. He was good against us for USC a few years ago.
He got banged up in that game, and the following game basically ended his season.
He didn’t play much before that game either.
That game was his entire college career basically.
And he had success because Lea dropped everyone back for the pass & let USC run the ball.
If Gilman didn’t try to strip the ball or (literally) jump on his back, Stepp would have not done anything.
I watched Stepp at Cathedral and was really excited for him to commit to ND when he did. But the kid couldn’t stay healthy. When he transferred from USC to Nebraska, without playing any football over the winter, showed up to Lincoln injured in the spring.

If he's a grad transfer, it's much easier getting them into ND than if they're transferring into the undergraduate program. Northwestern is a different animal than Nebraska and my guess is Brandon Joseph had sterling grades to be able to transfer into ND's undergrad. Not saying ND's grad program is easy to get into, but neither is the undergrad program and they let mediocre students into undergrad simply because they play football every year and it's the initial matriculation where it's easier to pull some strings.
