Not if he's being selected #1 overall April 2020.

What stats/testing numbers could a TE put up to deserve a #1 pick?

I'm thinking something along the lines of: 1500 yds receiving, 14+ TDs, 10+ pancake blocks and he'd have to be graded out as a 90+ blocker.

Testing would also have to be absurd: 4.55 or better 40, 25+ reps on bench, 37+ vertical, great shuttles as well.

Basically he'd have to be a perfect blend of OL/WR/TE.

I would love that player.

Obviously, the simple truth is that TE just doesn't have as much value on every down as other positions such as EDGE, OT, or QB. These are normally your #1 overalls. So, you're spot on in the bold; you have to have a generational player who is a stud in run blocking, serving as a glorified extra OT, but can become an absolute nightmare match up against even the elite OLBs and Safeties in coverage alike. Otherwise the value will never be there at #1.

Exactly. I guess if Cole Kmet turns out to be a combination of Lebron James/Zion Williamson and Gronk, then he might have a chance?

Per Twitter, left practice with a right shoulder injury. Could be a collar bone fracture, could be separated shoulder.

An II poster just reiterated from his earlier post that it is a broken collar bone. He's had correct and incorrect info in the past, we shall see.

If it's a broken collarbone, that typically fewer long term issues than a shoulder injury. It'll also be a quicker return to play where he'll likely only miss a few games. So all things considered that would not be the worst injury he could've gotten.

I personally think this is the best team BK has ever had. The only thing to stop this train, minus maybe Clemson or 'Bama, is injury.

Hope it isn't too bad.

O’Malley stated it as broken collarbone pending confirmation from BK Saturday so it seems he’s heard something.

If it's 4 weeks he misses Louisville.
If it's 6 weeks he misses New Mexico.
If it's 7 weeks he misses UGA.
If it's 8 weeks he misses UVA.

Let's hope it's just 4 and he gets the bye and New Mexico to knock the rust off.

Recovery time 4-8 weeks for collarbone usually

I would be surprised if he cleared to play before six weeks, but it depends on the severity of the fracture/break. I hope I'm surprised.

Update
From our friend Google

The time for a broken collarbone to fully heal depends on the severity of the injury. In children, complete healing may take as little as three to six weeks. In adults, six to 16 weeks or more are often necessary for a collarbone to heal solidly.Jun 29, 2012

Cole is also the one that recovered from a high ankle sprain in about 1.5 weeks, right?

Maybe he has some miracle recovery body?

Some of you must have been lucky enough to miss or forget USF. I'm not sure you can line up a week 1 opponent I'll ever be confident in after that.

Different talent level on this team.

I was there...I was there when they cleared the stadium for lightning...twice! I was there when Jonas Gray fumbled at the goal line. I was there when they trotted Crist back out there when we had a proven winner in Tommy on the bench. I was there when Tommy almost brought the team back. I was there when Floyd had a chance to get the onside kick and the ball was snatched from him. I was there...

Georgia lost 3 games last year. Let's not forget.

This. It won't be easy, but let's not forget that they got smoked by LSU last year in a very hyped game. They will be tough. They might even beat us badly if we have an off night a la Miami. But they're much more mortal than everyone is acting like.

Last year is gone. ND might lose 3 this year. They have a stud QB, stud RB, mammoth OL going up against a smaller and inexperienced ND front 7. In Athens at night.

They're not perfect, but there are several reasons why Vegas has ND as a big underdog here.
