If a non scholarship player got the LS job would they have to be given a scholarship since they are participating? if so, then the issue becomes is it better to give a LS you believe is an extremely outstanding talent a four year scholarship or hoping you can get a good LS not on scholarship already for less than a four year scholarship?

I am assuming the coaches have looked at the current roster and decided no one fits the bill.

I would defer to Kelly on this - again assuming that he believes this young man is exceptionally talented not just good. This would include obviously an evaluation of his ability to perform under pressure when a game is on the line.

I don't think u have to give a LS a scholly. Plenty of schools use walk on kickers. Doubt they are viewed any differently than the LS.

My point is just that we always have odd attrition. If they think this is an important enough position to have a scholarship player, I trust that.

I like the idea of having a scholarship LS on the roster and this kid seems perfect (#1 at pos, ND legacy). What I don't like is the possibility of having two in 2016 if BK asks Daly to return for a 5Y. I imagine Daly won't be asked back but you never know. You can never have enough LS depth!

On a personal note, I found out the first day of college football practice that colleges gave scholarships to LS. I was baffled at the time. Had I known that, I would have worked a lot harder on my long snapping skills in HS (I played Center).

The only bad snap I remember was the extra point I the game winning TD in the VaTech game, but Bramblet bailed him out with the hold.
