Interesting. I just assumed the academies wouldn't let you transfer out.

You have to get out before your Jr year starts. Once it starts, you have to complete the next two and 2 more years of service after school.

Or at least that's how it was back when Sen. Richard Luger and I discussed such matters.

Was thinking the same thing. Don't you have to sign some commitment to the forces after graduation? Guessing that will still stand true for him..?

Didn't know him but had to get a letter of recommendation from one of the sitting US Senators from my home state and I chose Mr. Lugar over the junior senator, Danforth Quayle.

Nope. He'll be done with his obligation to the Academy.

Isn't he the one who was all over the field against us? Was impressed if I'm thinking about the right player

If by all over the field you mean 12 tackles then yep... he's your man.

He sits out the season?

He should under normal circumstances but the guy at ISD says ND could/will/??? petition to make him eligible immediately. I have no idea on what grounds they would base that petition.

Could be some loop hole related to the way the service academies recruit/ don't have to meet the 85 scholarships?? Just spit balling

I heard someone theorize that the change in the rule / guideline that if going pro they can waive the 2 year commitment could be an angle.

Maybe the rule change that the service academies will no longer allow a waiver to go pro without fulfilling service will help with the petition?

I would argue it hurts their petition. He isn't required for service yet, and if he stayed longer, then he would be forced to serve a duty. Now that he knows there's pro potential, he wants the opportunity to try for it. If they didn't have that rule. Who knows, maybe he would stay.

Absolutely, and I agree. Just thinking that they may be confident in his petition because of the fact that they are changing the rule now, as opposed to him signing with the rule in place. Just spitballing why there's hope he may get a waiver. After the Vanderdoes thing I have absolutely no idea how this stuff operates.
