I didn't cast judgment. I questioned judgment. And based on my personal experiences working in hospitals in the Bronx, yes, I feel like there were times when it was my place as a concerned member of society to question some of the decisions made by some parents. So we will have to agree to disagree.

Same difference. Question people's judgement and intentions when you don't truly know them as individuals. It's none of your business. I worked as a firefighter for 8 years and another 5+ in an emergency room. There were times I hated parents, but only when they were negligent or deliberately harmful to their children. As a health care professional it's your duty to protect minors in certain situations. Picking the right college isn't one of those situations.

It's a shame that you weren't so vocal and forceful, week in and week out, when people were absolutely KILLING Joe Schmidt during the season.........

Were people attacking Joe personally or were they saying he sucks at football and should be benched for a five-star recruit (that no one knows how much of a bust he probably is and oh god I'm depressing myself)? There's a difference IMO.

This is actually an honest question.

But we could see Joe Schmidt playing poorly on the field [at times]. It wasn't needless speculation. It was a defensible stance to be [overly] critical of our MLB.

We have no idea what's going on behind the scenes with this recruit and his family. There's no need to speculate on the young man's family dynamics.

Maybe the dialogue on how we should talk about parents can be moved out of the recruit's thread so we can get back to discussing Demetris and what will happen with his recruitment moving forward. Greyhammer had a great question about what the rules are for contact after today. Any insights?

But we were NOT at practices and in meetings, to know whether or not playing Joe was the right thing to do, even given the limitations. So it's ok to speculate that our coaches are absolute morons, but it's not ok to make a joke about a recruits parent having ulterior motives for showing up in a kid's life, just as he on the verge of becoming financial secure?

I mean, I understand that we don't want a parent to read one of these threads, get pissed off, and steer their kid away from ND. But if it's going to be presented as "If you don't know, then don't speculate", then shouldn't the coaches and players who are already out there sweating and bleeding for the University get that same "protection"?

You're trying to make these situations the same, but they're not. Sure, we don't see practices and meetings... but we do see a MLB out there on gamedays whiffing on easy tackles and getting pushed past his physical limits because of depth issues. It's fair to criticize that and wonder if there is another answer, because we see the results and the culmination of the evidence on Saturdays.

It's not fair to speculate about a kid's family life when we literally know nothing about it.

That's just IMO, though. We were farrrr too hard on Joe this year. But at least there was evidence to debate. We don't have that when it comes to kids and their families.

Well, I consider what was addressed earlier in this thread (I won't refer to it again here) as a form of parental negligence. Again, feel free to believe what you want. We'll have to agree to disagree.

Agreed. Let's get back to the recruitment of Demetris and where ND stands.

Whew. Thought the one-man Joe Schmidt defense by Moose was over. Glad its continuing into the offseason. Looking forward to Moose's documentary in ten years trying to convince us he wasn't really bad the season. Call it, "Making a Mediocre Middle Linebacker".

I have quit guessing on the DRob recruitment. Just seems like he wants to please everyone and his voice gets lost in all the translation. In the end, I hope he actually chooses where he wants to go and the people in his life realize it's his decision and respect that.

Agreed -- and hopefully that's ND :)

Case in point........... I did NOTHING to defend Joe Schmidt's play this season, nor did I try to convince anyone that Joe didn't play poorly, but people just can't help but try to kill this kid.

I'm glad that the recruits can see how nice we will be to them and their family, UNTIL they suit up.......... then we will KILL them for EVERYTHING, if they stink. Exhibit A: Joe Schmidt's (normal) co-hosting of the special Signing Day edition of the Jack Swarbrick Show (a show that he has been co-hosting all year). Go look at all of the "I was hoping I would never have to see JS" comments in the signing day thread.

Actually grew up watching the Irish when I was a kid. There were usually two games on the tv each week and ND was most always one of them. So yeah... I have a place in my heart for the Irish.

I don't feel like sifting through countless pages for this info:

What's his new time table looking like?

In his dad's interview he stated he is awaiting test results on the 11th. If high enough, will visit Stanfors 13th-17th. Never said what he would do if they weren't high enough. I would guess we have at least 2-3 weeks.

IDK, it seems that IF he wanted to come to ND bad enough, he would have signed this week. Best guess IMO is that the ND class is already complete for this recruiting cycle. There's no doubt that it's a good signing class, with or without DRob.

I think we try to read too much into these at times when the answer is right in front of our face. Like I mentioned before, he likes the Mercedes (ND) but really wants the Rolls-Royce (Stanford) and is waiting to see if the finance manager (SAT scores) can swing it.

This is what I think as well. On paper alone, discounting liberal education, faith and culture, Stanford is the more prestigious degree. The deadline for signing doesn't affect him, so why not give it one last shot and decide based on viable options, rather than just play video games and let the decision make itself for you.

Seems from his position he is doing exactly what any smart man would do. What harm in waiting another 10-14 days if the prize is a free education at Stanford?

Did anyone answer the question of what the rules are with regard to contact after NSD?

So I stop by a thread and tell everyone to stop making assumptions about Robertson's family since we have no idea of what is going on within his family, and now we are fighting about Joe Schmidt?

I see we've gone full circle, IE.

This is such a tough recruitment to follow as a fan. I cannot root against a kid that is working so hard on a goal like getting admitted into Stanford. In my head, the best case is that he gets the scores he needs, but ultimately rewards the ND staff for all the hard work they put into his recruitment. If he does gain admission with the Trees, and does decide to go there, I still will root for this kid. He is doing this the right way, worked his tail off, and is the epitome of what this process is all about. We can wait a couple of extra weeks while he awaits on the results that will determine his future. Good luck Demetris!

I realize a smart coach is above this but IF he does come to ND, how do you not feel like the bridesmaid and not the bride on this one? You pull out all the stops, prostitute yourself to him and he STILL wants a school over you (one that he hasnt even seen) IF they will only take him. To me that is pretty crappy. I dont know if I was a coach how I couldnt ride his back forever knowing that. I mean, you better produce all of your 5 stars and more after that.

Really? You can't take one person's desires and hold that against them. I think the staff would be perfectly happy to land him regardless. Besides, say he doesn't get into Stanford and we do land him, there will probably be a little chip on his shoulder when we see them on the field. Could ultimately benefit us several times over. Just got to let this one play out and hope for the best.

You must have missed all the posts (including one by Wiltfong) where it was said even if he qualifies for Stanford, there is still a good shot he chooses ND.
