Seems fair. One major thing Kizer was saddled with was some really bad coaching. Arguably the worst in ND history in 2016. That staff was an unmitigated disaster, Kelly included. Also, let’s not forget the problems with the strength and conditioning at the end of Longos tenure.
Totally understand. He didn't have a competent defense and the program was peaking in toxicity. However, they also had decent OLs around that time and it's not like there weren't players around him that could've changed the outcome in some of the games. Look what Teddy Bridgewater did with his Louisville teams? A great QB can elevate those around him. What did Kizer do for us?
Hell of an arm, all the potential in the world and his story would've been drastically different if he came back for 2017. That was a loaded team in 2017 and he might've been the difference. Josh Adams, Dex, ESB, Claypool, Stepherson, Boykin, Durham Smythe, Alize Mack, Joe Moore award-winning offensive line.
Ahh what could've been.
Back in reality, Ian Book max'd everything and has the stats and won more games and helped orchestrate two, almost three, playoff runs.
