He's a day 1, 2 deep prospect, IMO. Not a day 1 starter though. He's got a really nice frame for an OLB but he needs to add strength and he's not as quick or fast as say a Jaylon Smith was at the juncture. So when Jaylon showed up he could use his speed, quickness, and agility that was superior to the level of talent on the field. Caleb won't have that luxury, yet. However, I do think Bryan Driskell's write up was spot on about how good of a SAM LB prospect he is for this system.

I agree. I'm not sure any current HS LB besides Ben Davis starts next year for the Irish. Of all the All American LB's ND was on, CK needs the iron diet the most. That being said, when he gets up to 240 and beyond, he's gonna be a monster. You can't teach length.

Jaylon stepped on campus at 240. Right Now Caleb looks like Redfield

This.. Jaylon is another level of physical specimen. Manti was also bigger when he showed up. Doesn't mean this kid wouldn't bulk up just don't think his body is there yet.

Can't blame him for laughing at the media, but if he's seeking attention...

He was definitely not 240 when he walked on campus as a freshman. He was around 220-225 range.

Maybe!

(I think that is what they intimated, but 205 to 210 was more accurate. His legs were skinny. No other way to put it.)

So like Diaco's height, no one really knows how much Jaylon weighed as a freshman.

He was 6'3 212 at the opening the summer before his senior season. 247 had his recruiting profile at 218, rivals at 210, and Scout at 225. I doubt all those numbers are inflated that much. Especially considering most of these were taken 6+ months before he actually came to campus. Also, Scout updates their weights for players each year. He was 225 as a freshman, 230 as a sophomore, etc.

And I said 205 to 210? Don't want to quibble about 8lbs., or less. With a guy that size this difference can be the beginning versus the end of a workout! The point is when Jaylon came in he was much less than the 240 or more he ended at, without as low a body fat rate, and everyone has forgotten that he couldn't play off a block with a shiver, or his hands until his sophomore year.

So comparing anything about Caleb to Jaylon, viewed with rose colored 20-20 hindsight just plain ain't fair. No personal criticism, just trying to save some time.

Well, not to get too far off topic but the difference between 205-210 and 220-225 is fairly significant. 8 lbs. might not be significant but 15-20 lbs. is twice that or more and is very significant. Especially coming off of such a low number. I have no idea where you got 205-210 from but I can say with a lot of confidence that Jaylon did not lose weight from his Senior year to when he enrolled on campus, actually it was quite the opposite. I'd say that Scout probably has the most accurate at 225 considering that was probably the weight they took from freshman weigh-ins. 225 is a manageable weight for a OLB as a freshman, 205-210 isn't. So though I agree that Jaylon was much smaller than 240, he was at a weight that was manageable. Kelly currently isn't at that weight and doesn't have the other tangible traits to make up for being undersized.

I have it on pretty good authority that he came into Fall camp at #229, and started the season at #224. That came from somebody @ AWP.

I can settle the weight debate. Jaylon measured 6'2 5/8 in heigh t and 218lbs in weight at the U.S. Army All-American bowl. Enrolled at 225lbs. Sophomore spring game he was at 230 and played his sophomore year at a listed 232. Junior year spring game he was up to a listed 235 and by last season 240. Athletes, like every day people, their weight fluctuates. So it's safe to say you can give or take as much as 5 lbs during the season. Caleb measured 6'3 1/4 and 215. So basically he is about a half inch taller and basically the same weight as Jaylon at the same stage of their career. Like Jaylon, it could be assumed he'll progressively put on mass through his college career and be around the 235-240 range by his JR year. My point, they're verily similar in size.

Can you move the Jaylon weight convo to Jaylon's thread?

I typically would, but it is really a comparison of Kelly and Jaylon's weights. Though the past few posts are dominated with only Jaylon's name, it is nonetheless based on a discussion of Kelly's weight and if it were to be moved to Jaylon's thread would be out of place.

Despite me thinking the discussion itself is pointless and stupid, the posts remain.

Just for clarity, I know BK used his in-home but the assistants already used theirs too, correct? Thought I remember seeing a pic of Caleb and BVG earlier this week or last week.

Assistants can visit recruits once a week
