I'm not actually sure what you're saying couldn't be more different?

I didn't say anything about him being an ND type kid I commented on not getting vested for now. Which I'm not sure how you could even disagree with considering he's never been to campus but has set 2 dates. Lastly, I commented on his support group. Which at this time is either all UM or all OK. That doesn't bode well for ND.

Sorry, I thought I bolded it.

"Insanely uphill battle with folks around him."

That isn't the case at all. Kelly doesn't have the connections at Oklahoma as some of the other kids that went there from the Fresno area. Michigan, he did take an unofficial to, but they were recruiting him much harder than Notre Dame at the time. I can tell you those around are extremely pro-Notre Dame and is a large reason he has had the fascination with Notre Dame for quite sometime.

It's just one of those things where when he did take the Michigan visit, there just simply wasn't much contact with Notre Dame in March, as the coaching change was just put into place and recruiting was on the backburner. Did that hurt Notre Dame? We will see, but it was definitely a missed opportunity to get on him on campus.

Also, there are many things that go into visits and the kid/kids family isn't always the one to drop the ball or blame.

We can agree to disagree on this but he is most definitely a DB guru, Tony Perry, recruit. Which obviously has huge implications in this recruitment and I'm kind of surprised you think otherwise. That has OK, just like all other Fresno kids, in the thick of it. Also, even though the OK fan base feels really good about their chances, they admit that his mother absoutely loves Michigan.

Lastly, Quick was also a "different" Fresno kid and still to this day that probably holds true. However, how did that work out. Tony Perry has a lot to do with all of these kids recruitments and thats, at least I thought so, known by all.

Will this be for the football banquet? If so, do you guys feel that hurts or helps are situation? I've never understood the draw of the banquet when a recruit could come to a game and see the gameday atmosphere, what type of crowd support and fans we have, how coaches react in game situations, etc. The banquet would not be a big draw for me so curious to get others views.

IMO, this hurts with Kelly. This being the last possible visit, 1) He could commit before then and we'll never have had a chance. 2) If he has to cancel (he's already cancelled like 4 ND trips), there won't be another chance to visit, so it's an all or nothing deal. 3) It'll be cold AF. Would much rather him visit for USC/Texas. Bird in the hand.

I am a fan of this because we are getting one of his last visits. I do not see this kid committing early. We do really well at the banquet and we usually get a couple of commits out of the banquet. However, I dont see us getting him anyways.

Banquet or game day, I think an OV scheduled that far in advance is basically not scheduled at all. That said, better to be on the OV list than off it.

Where/when else is he going?

We seem to have a lot of success during the Banquet. Won't be as many recruits so more one on one time. Plus get all the commits around him

I think it's good thing. Probably his last visit. We have gotten a lot of guys who visited at the banquet in the past.

This and this. The banquet has become our ace in the hole. If we can get him to hold off on committing until then (and we put together a decent season), we'll be in great shape.

the slate of games he will see is quite underwhelming - TCU @ Oklahoma will probably be the most electric (provided Oklahoma does not shit the bed before that)

wiltfong said this isn't like the long shot in getting iman but we do have a lot of ground to make up...says he is an ND kid, and IF we were able to get fuller they are friends and would like to play on same team IF possible...

We are getting an OV from him and I think that is big. Let our coaches take it from there.

okl will be VERY tough to beat, but according to 247 he won't just commit to them because he feels the pressure

Monday Recruitin' Plays Both Sides | mgoblog

Visited SCUM last weekend

The general feeling with five-star CA OLB Caleb Kelly is Michigan's visit went well but might not be enough to overcome Oklahoma's lead ($). Unless Kelly surprisingly declares Michigan his leader this week, that's to be expected—he still has four more official visits to go, including one to Norman.

that tells me he's not visiting just to watch a good game, and is a good thing. love that we are getting the last one.

Can I start a petition to NEVER use "RKG" again?

Really wish he was coming for a gameday atmosphere, like when we host USC.

I just can't imagine overtaking Oklahoma without showing him what it's like for the team on gameday.

I couldn't agree more! The game day experience is like none other IMHO. He won't get the same experience at the banquet. Not even close.

the banquet allows recruits to spend more time with his hosts though and its a more casual environment, there are advantages to it. they can always bring them to a shooty hoops game

I like the idea of coming to the banquet.

kid will get a chance to see most of the commits and I usually hear rave reviews after the banquet is over.

not to mention if we have a fantastic year that will make that experience all the more special for visitors.

Can I admit something, maybe I'm not the only one,... when I open a recruiting thread and it's a defender and the stars are all fours and fives, I tend to immediately think, "no shot"...

You are not alone. I know it's a terrible train of thought, but it seems the proof has been in the pudding for the most part.
