20+ pounds on his frame is a no brainer. Exciting to think about what he could do.

I think size wise he's already pretty close to where he needs to be. Just add about 10-15 lb's to absorb a little punishment. I love his speed and don't want to take away from what makes him great.

He played way better than I ever could have expected. I was worried about his running inside, but he ran hard yesterday. Add a few more lbs and he will be a beast. Needs to work on his cutting. Josh is a great open field runner, but struggled to slow his momentum when trying to make cuts and his cuts were choppy and not quick.

This kid should definitely get some consideration for freshman All-American, 760 yards on 102 carries for 7.5 yards per and 5 TDs for a top ten team.

Impressive is an understatement.

I cant see not having this kid starting next year. If you want Prosise, run a split backfield. I dont know where that puts Folston next year.

You might see Adams returning kicks next year, with Prosise and Folston in the backfield. But that assumes that Folston comes back 100%, which is not a sure thing obviously. I'm pretty sure that I heard them say Adams was back there with Sanders, on Sanders' TD return.

Anyone think Prosise might be gone after this year? He had a solid year and coming back probably means split carries with Folston and Adams.

I would much rather have Folston / Adams combo. Let Cj go back to the jet sweeps, approximate 5 carries a game and use him in motion to get the a Mitch match.Adams is so much better getting north and south the Cj.

Per UND.com

Per UND.com

Josh Adams’ rushing total tonight is a Notre Dame freshman record, topping the 148 yards by Jerome Heavens on Nov. 8, 1975, against Georgia Tech in “the Rudy game.”

Adams now has 757 rushing yards on the year, second in school history for a freshman behind only the 786 yards by Darius Walker in 2004.

Adams had his fourth 100-yard rushing game of the year tonight, setting a school freshman record.

Set two freshman rushing records last night and will own the season freshman record with 30 yds in a bowl game.

The guy was on pace to shatter Notre Dame rushing records before injuries and you want to relegate him to five touches a game?

Yesterday was a huge step forward for him, ran much harder in-between the tackles than I'd seen before. As for his cuts, I don't think anyone was cutting well on that field yesterday. If I remember right, both Torii and Kizer looked like they had trouble making hard cuts too.

I would probably leave if I were him, try my luck in the NFL.

I wasn't happy when he committed and thought we settled. Boy was I wrong

What would you do? I really don't know. How do you split three carries between them?

A lot of "OR"s on the depth chart until they separate themselves.

Before it even gets to that point: Does Folston return 100%? Does Prosise go pro?

You can't move Prosise to WR because the WR corp is as stacked as the RB corp. You'd be throwing talent away. But he may want to start working towards his second NFL contract and move on anyway instead of splitting carries. Regardless of whether two or three come back, there will definitely be split carries.

I think if they were all healthy tomorrow I'd go 1a Prosise, 1b Adams, 1c Folston. But that depends on the matchup and gameplan too. Stanford was a perfect gameplan for a Prosise or Folston. But playing a team like Boston College would be something more like Folston IMO.

Whatever decision Kelly makes will be the wrong one, according to many on here and specifically in the gameday threads. I have 100% certainty in that being the case.

People act like Folston wouldn't have had damn near 2000 yards this year. Folston is not as explosive as either Prosise or Adams, but he is a complete runner. I'm not sure what % he returns to from injury, but it's quite obvious to me that if he's 100% next year that he'd get 10-15 touches a game with Prosise and Adams splitting the other 15-20. You also have to assume each year that at least 1 RB will get banged up... injury rates for RBs are very high and it's quite rare that someone is able to work horse like Henry. Prosise is the best receiver of the backs, so he's your 3rd down back.

So you ride Folston (especially in the red zone) while keeping Prosise fresh and have Adams chip in as needed in relief. If any particular back gets hot, you ride them for awhile. Everyone wins. When Oregon was at their peak with LaMichael James and Kenyon Barner you saw:
James - 20 touches a game, 150 yards
Barner - 12 touches a game, 80 yards
Thomas - 9 touches a game, 100 yards

That's basically what ND could do but with some decreased volume because of the lack of "warp speed" offense.

Folston would have had a monster year behind this year's OL.

To be fair, looking back over the thread, we originally thought he was 6'3" and lost his burst. By the time his senior film came out, you and everyone else agreed the kid was an underrated stud.

7.45 yards per rush was tied for 11th in the country and tied for 3rd for RBs with 100+ rushes.

I understand your point. And it is a very valid one Buster. I think Adams is the north /south runner we have been looking for. I like CJ and think he did a good job filling in for folston. Another year with an excellent problem to have.

You're kind of contradicting yourself. When he adds weight and muscle, he's going to be a pounder / slasher. He's never going to be a cutter / dancer.

From that article. Watching it in real time was impressive. But when you can watch it a few times in a row? My god, the speed burst from Adams at about the 45-yard line, when it looked like #11 was going to catch him... You can literally see Adams hitting his second gear and just running away. Amazing.

Hasn't gotten much hype, but Adams now owns the freshman record for rushing yards at ND.

117 carries for 835 yards (7.1 average) and 6 TDs.

Also added 7 catches for 42 yards and a TD.

Even more impressive is that he had 6 games earlier in the season where he had 5 or less touches.

The last 5 games of the season, Adams had 83 carries for 570 yards (6.9 average). That was against legit competition (Pitt, Wake, BC, Stanford, OSU). Over a 12-game season, that would be a season of 1,368 rushing yards. Not bad.

Also, somehow he had the best tackle of anyone on the team yesterday so there's that too.

If I'm any of our tailbacks, I am putting in some extra work on catching the ball out of the backfield. It could be something that small that determines how many opportunities they get next year.
