I have a friend telling me Justin Yoon is not allowed to bow anymore? Is this true or am I just starting an online rumor?

No idea but if true this should be moved to the Political Correctness thread. Good grief.

I think it's fair that Boykin got MVP. But I wouldn't have batted an eye if Yoon got it yesterday.

Two huge kicks in less than ideal conditions, and he split them.

I was extremely wrong about Yoon. I sincerely thought he was a head case after struggling a bit early in his time here. He's been incredibly consistent and it feels like he's always kicking long ones for us.

Boykin, Yoon, Tranquil and Coney were all (IMHO) extremely worthy of consideration. The boys played hard and fearless. Cheers!

He was inconsistent early, but that may have been due to the big stage. I was thinking yesterday how comfortable he looks out there.

My new #1 want this cycle. Let's get an Asian on the team!!

Would be a near bannable comment in 2018.

He'll hold out for Duke or Stanford.

Hmm I wonder what this means?

Can he play quarterback?

Can he still play QB?

Cool. I like using scholarships to get great specialists.

P.S. This is my 3,000th post. Fuck USC and Fuck Michigan

Made up for that one with the Fvck USC, Fvck Michigan.

I can hear the announcers now after every made field goal, "the crowd isn't saying 'boooooooo', they're saying 'Yoooooooooooon!".

Hit the nail on the head with that one.

Please cease with the Asian jokes.

Haha

Best ND kicker of all-time?

Probably. I think I had heard that he will most likely become ND's all-time leading scorer this year.

Will most likely jump into top 4 in FG made in career this year (don't see him passing the leader Brindza at 57)
Leads all time FG% at ND with 82.4% (Carney 2nd at 73.9%)
3rd for best single season FG % at 88.2 (Ruffer leads with 94.7% in 2010)

Yoon also has a career long of 52 yards. I don't know where that ranks him, but I'd imagine top 5 or so.

Take all of that info into consideration and then add another very good SR year (which I imagine he will have) to that and I believe it 's safe to say he is the GOAT of ND kickers. Top 2 no doubt imo.

He is the most reliable ND kicker in my admittedly clouded memory.

I love Yoon, and I'm sure this has been discussed before so I apologize in advance, but why has there been so much talk about him getting worn out?

Do you really gas yourself... kicking so much? To the point where the coaches feel like they have to put in an objectively worse option?

I dont know much at all about the life of a kicker. Maybe it does drain you that much? What's up?

Battled tendinitis previously. I'm assuming they are just trying to minimize his workload so that he is less likely to have a relapse.

It probably does not take much fatigue to reduce your effectiveness as a kicker.

At 45, I think my eligibility is up.

Back in 2015, a few of us made the journey to South Bend to watch our beloved Irish put the hammer down on USC.

Excluding myself, the 3 other guys are/were very accomplished athletes… football, baseball, triathlons, cross-country skiing and endurance races. I’m not talking small town local stuff either. They competed and placed with among the best in the world. Not me… no humble brag.

So we get to Notre Dame from Chicago pretty early for the USC game… night game so we have time to explore. Get out of the bus (Bus 2 Notre Dame) and almost immediately get in a fight with some USC fans. Turns out we are in the same lot as the USC band… cool but not my favorite place to be on game day. Not a lot of Irish fans around.

Did a walk about campus. Really cool! Buddy #1 has been there before a couple times… once for a game and once for a coaching clinic. He knows the ropes.

After an hour or so, we head inside to what I can only guess was indoor practice facility. It’s packed and there are a lot of booths and demos going on. Buddy #2 spots a taco stand and decides he’s blowing us off for a few minutes in search of some Mexican goodness. He loves Mexican food more than anyone I have ever met. Returns less than a minute later and it turns out his “Taco” stand was actually a fund raiser for the seminary. I think I have that right? There were no tacos but some cool stickers and he told us he left a $20 donation. To this day, I still don’t know what the hell that was all about?

So what does this have to do with Justin Yoon and his thread?

Great question, and hopefully you have followed this rambling. Buddy #3 is an accomplished surgeon. He has worked in both the U.S. and Canada. He stands about 5’9”and was a very accomplished field goal kicker and soccer player. EXTREMELY humble and unpretentious guy. We get indoors and he spots the field goal kicking display and we make our way over. A very long line but we waited diligently for at least 30 minutes. We watched a couple young kids come up way short. Buddy #3 is stretching and loosening up for his turn. He’s telling us he figures he can make a 40 yarder at least.

WE get to the front of the line and the guy running the booth looks at us with a bit of confusion on his face. He askes Buddy #3 if he has filled out the release form. Buddy #3 looks confused, as do we all. Then he asks Buddy #3 his age. Buddy #3 replies, “48 years young!!”.

Turns out that the booth was for young kids and #3 was not allowed to kick the field goal he had been waiting his life to kick. We were really sad.

And that is how Justin Yoon managed to keep his position as kicker on the Irish.

YOOOOOOOON!!!

Pretty much a true story?

Cheers and Go Irish!!

I'd also think there's greater injury risk on kickoff duty than there is just doing field goals, yeah?
