I'd also think there's greater injury risk on kickoff duty than there is just doing field goals, yeah?

Little experience but not entirely sure. Kickoff is dictated by the kicker... field goals, extra points by the holder. The former is on the kicker's terms to a large degree, the latter 2 tend to be a bit less predictable and require a lot more focus on the snap and hold.

My observations only.

Cheers and Go Irish!!

I mostly meant on the tackling part of kickoff duty.
Field goals you kick and you're done. If anyone touches you it's probably a penalty.
Kickoffs you kick and then run down the field and maybe you have to tackle a really fast dude or potentially get blocked at a bad angle.

the issue with yoon is that he has ambitions of making it in the NFL and thus he must show he can be a reliable Kickoff man if he's ever gonna make it in the Pro's. This isn't really conductive to keeping him healthy as a FG kicker for this ND team though

Don't have to make a tackle if you hit a touchback every time.

He almost broke his left ankle on the first kickoff after taking over for Doerr against Pitt so yeah the chances for injury are definitely greater.

Money quote lol --
He only heard one rule from Jiseop before the process started. He could not go to Alabama, under any circumstances. Justin needed as elite a collegiate education as possible, and his father was convinced that was not available in Tuscaloosa.

Rough day over the weekend.
0-3 at the NFLPA COLLEGIATE BOWL
missed 36, 44, and 60...
No problem with missing the 60, but didn't help his case on the other two.

Still can't believe he hasn't been signed or even invited to a minicamp yet. Travesty.

Kickers just don't get drafted much, plus as good as Yoon is, there are a lot of good kickers out there. IIRC most teams invite kickers closer to mini-camp and training camp. He should get an invite from someone.

Regardless of the topic when you two post back to back I get momentary dyslexia.

From what I’ve heard on podcasts, he lacks the proven leg strength to attract NFL teams. I bet some team(s) give him an invite to prove otherwise.

He should get a shot. But it's pretty damn hard to get a job as an NFL kicker.
Also, like you said, proven leg strength. His career long was 52 yards (As a freshman. He hasn't hit a FG over 50 yards in the last three years. He's only tried 50+ three times in his career.). That would have been in the bottom third of NFL kickers for long FGs last season.

If Kyle friggin Brindza can get a shot in the NFL, Yoon can too.

What others have said about leg strength is true and hurts Yoon. Brindza had a strong leg, but his accuracy was always inconsistent and a major issue. I love Yoon and he will go done as one of my favorite ND kickers of all time. But he just doesn’t have the leg to get a legit shot with an NFL team.

They removed him as kickoff man the last two years citing workload and injury concerns. That's a red flag for the NFL since they can't carry two kickers and only a few teams have punters who can kickoff.

Of course Doerer couldn't kickoff inbounds so they went back to Yoon, that's another story.

Will buy a Yoooooooon Jersey the day he is signed.

Hard to stomach living through Parkey last year and then signing a replacement named Blew-it. I'd believe it more if it were an SNL skit.
