6th rounder. The catch where he got u
Ended wasn’t that tough but hanging onto the ball was. The cartwheel into the end zone wasn’t a great catch but an acrobatic fall made at the time. It’s true Wimbush stunk up the joint but ESB could get better separation. Stepherson was more of a baller and always found a way to get open. His leaving will hurt more.

What's he curling there 125lbs? Sloppy form having to throw his body into it. Lower the weight to wear you can curl using only your arms. He'll get more gain from that then using more weight with poor technique.

The "deplorable ball placement" argument only goes so far. If it really was such a hindrance, why was his catch rate so much lower than Chase Claypool's? Last I checked, he had the same QB throwing to him.

No EQ, you don't get a pass just because Wimbush was a inconsistent at best passer. You missed a lot of legit opportunities and didn't win enough contested balls.

He's a WR that thrives with a QB who can get him the ball on the run. He's still not great at 50/50 jump balls.

Rooting for EQ to score very well at the combine and put on a show at his pro day.

There's actually a couple of sites out there that would argue the "catch rate" thing. I saw in one place that if you adjust for inaccurate throws by Wimbush, his catch rate is at the top-level of "sure-handedness"

The "battle for contested balls" thing will always be a legit gripe that he's gonna have to overcome when he talks to NFL teams.

But he absolutely WILL "get a pass" for being at Wimbush's mercy, especially when you consider his numbers from the year before when he had a legit passer getting him the ball in-stride.

Do you have a link? I'd like to see their methodology. On the surface it seems like that's code for "didn't make tough catches."

For example, Boykin's snag at the end of the LSU game was an absurdly tough catch... but great WRs make tough catches. That's something they look for when drafting someone high. Nobody in the NFL wants a WR that can only catch passes that hit them in stride, right in the hands. They're looking for guys with hands like Golden Tate, Alshon Jeffrey, AJ Green, etc. that can make spectacular catches when covered. If you can't do that, you better have Will Fuller speed.

I saw it in passing on Twitter I think, so I'll try to track it down.

As for the bold, you could be right. Any catch-rate system that adjusts for quality of throws is going to be largely subjective... How do you parse a poor throw from what could just be a mis-timed or poorly-run route? It seems like a system that would require input from the athlete or coaches.

But on the flip-side, we all saw how poorly Wimbush did at getting the ball into realistic windows for his WR's, and I think ESB got the shaft worse than any of our other pass-catchers, based on what he was asked to do within the offense, and the fact that Wimbush largely wasn't good at getting the ball to someone doing those things.

Update: It was a Pro Football Focus guy I saw first. Saw another after that agreed with a different breakdown. Not sure on their methodology for what classifies as "catchable," but it sure seemed like ESB had more than one true "drop." ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Have him with 43 targets, 21 of which are classified as 'catchable.'<br><br>1 drop on the season for him is what we have.</p>— Cam Mellor (@PFF_Cam) <a href="https://twitter.com/PFF_Cam/status/926503524686553088?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">November 3, 2017</a></blockquote>

Why did he play so light again? He had some nagging injury stuff as a freshman/spring ball sophomore year IIRC, yes? (Also, Longo?)

And, yes, EQ, I think we all wish you'd made a few more contested catches.

Ran a 4.48 40.

He is making loads of cash at this combine.

His down-year once again being attributed to passes and targets that were “sprayed all over the place.”

Comparing EQ and his ND situation to so many of the LSU WR’s and their situations. Yikes.

He's probably going to interview really well too. I'd be surprised if he's not a day two pick.

He'll go in the 2nd round simply cause of that. That is an astounding 40 time for WR let alone a 6'4" WR.

Begs the question whether it was all on BW or did ESB have something to do with the poor completion %?

From my perspective, ESB was very poor in most contested balls. This is not an endorsement of BW, but more about ESB’s compete level
