Yeah really crazy to think that according to those in the know EQ is supposedly the least "special" of the St. Brown boys.

Sure, but my point was, assuming he becomes the number 1 and balls out, does that change things back in NDs favor for his brothers....?

This thread about potential just made me realize that 11/11 offensive starters can return for 2017. Jesus.

Yup. And a Year 2 Daelin Hayes plus the young secondary gets more experience. It's 2018 that looks scary.

Love my man zelezo, but I'm so over forever looking to next year, it was tired during the Willingham era and when I see it I always react like:

No I expect Wimbush to be the starter next year and then a lot of talent to graduate or go pro early and leave a reloading year in 2018, which just so happens to be the year the schedule gets way more difficult.

The team should win 10 games this year, but I trust that BK understands that the defense and especially defensive recruiting has been holding back the program. I expect changes this offseason

Yeah but let's face t there are many players who could leave early:

McGlichey more than likely leaves
Q good chance he leaves
Kizer if he stays healthy will leave
Hunter possibly could leave if he stays healthy and produces

Osiris verbaled to Stanford but everything I have read has ND leading for Amon-Ra.

Oh gotcha.

Yeah I would think so. It seemed like EQ's parents had some questions about the program in general, but seeing your kid ball out probably makes you forget about a lot of those little nitpicks. Also they seem like a pretty tight family, so I would think the opportunity of having all 3 playing for the same university will be a very strong selling point.

Yeah really crazy to think that according to those in the know EQ is supposedly the least "special" of the St. Brown boys.

I wasn't sold on EQ in HS and I saw a couple of games live and a few more on DVR. The problem was, Travis Waller was his QB at Servite. Dude had no passing game, he ran it every time. Tough to evaluate a WR with DT-QB in that system. He didn't even have 500 yards on the season... maybe not even 400. The best WR to me at the time actually looked to be Terrell Bynum as a soph. EQ did a great job of blocking though.

Flash forward... ASB and OSB transfer to Mater Dei after ESB graduates and hook up with wonder boy and future ND gunslinger JT Daniels... of course they look better. Daniels throws for over 3000 yds as a freshman, Waller 1500ish. That's where the diff is.

ESB is the biggest of the three, no? I think out of all his brothers he's the most reserved, so he doesn't really come off as the flashy star WR, but his younger brothers are pretty big talkers (who definitely back it up)

Deceptively fast for his size and very fluid... if we get Hunter back, I think opposing DBs are going to really struggle to cover our receivers.

Yes. There is no Will Fuller playmaker. But the combination of Hunter-Sanders-EQ is a better starting group than last years.

Even when we get Hunter back, ESB is our man, imo. Really complete receiver.

It is crazy to think that the entire receiving core will be back for 2017 and you'll be able to add Alize Jones to that group.

I'll take receivers like ESB over Fuller everyday of the week; you saw how ESB can have an impact in the red zone last week which was something Fuller couldn't do. If EQ can get up to around 215, I think he will be just as good as Floyd. I'm officially on the hype train and the more experience this group gets, the more dangerous they will be. This isn't just a better starting option than last years group, I think this is the best starting group since 2005.

Next week will obviously be a big test for the receivers.

That is f*ck!ng insane. On no planet do I want a first year starting ESB over a 3rd year starting Fuller. Fuller would completely change the dynamic of this offense because he can beat ANYONE in coverage.

I'm super excited about ESBs development and future but geez, we just lost a first round WR and we're already claiming addition by subtraction. Absurd.

And I don't need see any qualifiers about how you meant you'd take x with y & z criteria, etc. etc.

Seriously. Not to mention that Fuller scored 29 TDS in the last two years.

I'll take a Fuller every 2 years and alternate a Shark and an Eifert in the other 2 years.

It's possible ESB could bump Eifert or Shark down the road but Fuller will always be on my roster. He makes everyone better because 11 defenders are worried they're about to be on the wrong end of a ESPN Top 10. If you don't understand that, ask Adoree for clarification.

No doubt arrowryan you smoking the happy crack homey.

I guess I'm just as high on Fuller as most of you. Yeah, he caught a lot of touchdowns but I don't like how most of them were 40 yards or more; long touchdowns are awesome, but I think that is telling how limited he was when the field got smaller. Not only that, but he caught the ball with his body ALL THE DAMN TIME and that bothered me.

ESB is a guy that score from 50 yards out and you can throw him the jump ball in the end zone. In my book, that is a true #1 receiver and I will take a guy like that every time.

I would be surprised if Nelson or Hunter left.

If Kizer plays in 2016 like we thkn he can, he'd have the inside track at the #1 overall spot in the 2018 draft. I think he stays.

McGlinchey can go. I'd love to see him back in 2017 but Kraemer is a fine heir.

I think there is a distinct possibility McGlinchey goes with a first round grade, Q will go if he gets the grade and if Kizer's production continues at this clip, I imagine he'll get a first round grade.

Really hope this team galvanizes because it is rare to have this much offensive talent. If we end up with 10+ wins, I'm guessing all of the aforementioned players are gone (minus Hunter).

But there is so much football left to be played.

Especially Hunter..I mean, what?

What has he done that even merits leaving early/NFL talk?

Not saying he won't do something, but as of now, he's not a guy who is going in the 1st 4 rounds.

It's not so far fetched that he graduates and moves on.

Not being on the team next year doesn't mean leaving for the NFL is the only scenario that could play out.

Gotcha.

But I don't know why he'd go to another school.

...and I don't know at this time why CBK wouldn't extend him a 5th year but if ESB, YRC and say Corey Holmes ended up the top 3 WR, Stepherson/Claypool/McKinley all looked promising (not to mention AJ's return), they might come to a mutual agreement. Who knows(?)... but remember, his Dad is well versed in the advantages of free agency.

If Kizer finishes this year at the level he should based on the way he started the season and looks to be developing, he may be one of the top couple of picks in the draft.

I don't think Kizer has even thought about it, but I would bet whether he returns in that scenario is all about how good of insurance policy he gets. I would think it needs a bit better than Smith's, in covering his losses in dropping within the first round.

As far as receivers. Talk about Sanders and St. Brown. They are stars on the rise.

But a few points :
  • Equanimeous is a natural short side receiver, where Fuller was all wide-side.
  • Don't look now, but the guy that is going to step in for Fuller, and we are therefore going to have countless meaningless conversations about is KJ Stepherson.

I don't know what you all saw, but when I saw DK, who cut his teeth throwing to Will Fuller, register his only pick of the year because he so poorly gaged Stepherson's speed, I almost spilled my beer. Almost.

Stepherson, not only appears to have some of Fuller's speed and explosiveness, but, (dare I say) he seems to be far superior at this point in his freshman year, to what routes Will ran until say, last year, (wasn't that his third in the program?)

I bet this kid just ignites from here on out! (Now that he doesn't have to worry about his social life.)

Steph ran some nice routes. Two underthrows by Kizer were surprising to me as I thought he would err on side of caution (overthrow). Kelly blamed the wind - I don't think spirals were quite that tight either. He definitely had more to put into that long one to Stepherson -wasn't a case of not having enough arm.
