Saban said both Barnett and Cooper Bateman would play against USC 5 days ago.

David Cornwell was injured for most of fall camp and Jalen Hurts, despite a ton of hype, apparently wasn't in Saban's plans just yet.

I *almost* felt bad about how lost and helpless he looked.

It kind of seems like it was always the plan to turn it over to Hurts full-time pretty rapidly, though. Almost like they threw Blake into the fire to make sure Hurts wasn't taking the first bullets.
