So, two guys that have played a good amount and a whole lot of "potential" behind him. Sorry, but that roster is not one that is all that scary if your the opposition. The three guys we had that were supposed to be the quicker athletes are gone.Really fellas? Hill wasn't in the two deep at any position. He was a situational player we took a flyer on. The kid played in 9 games last year and had zero sacks outside of the Michigan game. Acting like our pass rush is destroyed because we lost a dude that isn't even second string is ridiculous and shortsighted.
Really? Rochell, Blankenship, Bonner, Trumbetti, Randolph will all be back next season. We have Okwara, Jones and Ogundeji all coming in for '16. How many DE's do you need?
Sophomore defensive end Kolin Hill will transfer out of Notre Dame. The Texas product was fighting pass-rushing role this year.
Notre Dame’s pass rush has taken another hit.
Sophomore defensive end Kolin Hill informed Irish Illustrated on Wednesday night that he will transfer out of Notre Dame and has received his release from the University. Hill, a product of Schertz, Texas, said he was already back home and not with the team in South Bend.
Notre Dame’s training camp will kick off Friday.
Brian Kelly will address the media on Thursday morning in advance of Notre Dame’s first practice the following day.
Hill was expected to compete for a pass rush role within the Irish defense this season after his freshman season that included nine games played, seven tackles and two sacks. He posted 1.5 sacks in the rout of Michigan in September. He was battling classmates Grant Blankenship, Andrew Trumbetti and Jonathan Bonner for playing time, likely in a reserve capacity this season.
Hill’s departure continues a negative trend along the defensive line for the Irish, where Jhonny Williams transferred this summer and Bo Wallace never enrolled, instead signing with Arizona State. The departures mean Notre Dame will have just six sure-fire eligible defensive ends this season, with the fate of Ishaq Williams unclear.
Hill was seen as an enticing project for Notre Dame out of Clemens High School outside San Antonio. The Irish offered late in his recruitment and held off a charge from Texas in recruiting’s final months to score his signature.
While it’s unclear where Hill will land – he declined comment – his twin brother Kaleb will be a red-shirt defensive end at Boise State this season.

I think they clearly are all directed at Kolin. Would love to hear how this all shook out.
I actually really like seeing Nyles stepping up.
What are you talking about? Rochell, Blankenship, Bonner, Trumbetti & Randolph will all be veterans with tons of game experience behind them. Trumbetti, Randolph and Rochell were all top recruits.
We literally will not be lacking in talent, experience or potential in 16'. That's a two deep of DE's all with significant experience, three of which were blue chip recruits. We are absolutely fine.
“Grant’s got to get a little more bulk,” Gilmore said. “He’s got to get a little bit more serious about the game and in his playbook, but I have to keep reminding myself these guys are freshmen. You really shouldn’t even be talking about him like this at this point. They should be on the backburner and you say, ‘Hey, they play when we’re killing somebody in cleanup duty.’ But unfortunately we’ve got to coach them so they’re ready to play…he’s got some development to do.”
Wow that's some heavy shade from the ND fam.
Could also be Autry encouraging Bryant to not give up. I'm always hesitant to read too much into sub-tweeting.
Do we have any immediate impact DEs left on the board for this year's class?

Oluwole Betiku.
I would also add that we have until Feb to get back into it with some guys. We have a long time until NSD.

I've never understood the negative connotation of shade as its used now. It's the freaking summer, shade is awesome.
I think he looked GREAT against Michigan, he was my sleeper for this season. This team has no pass rush right now.

but you are denying someone/something vitamin D!

I think Trumbetti and Rochell will be solid.
Here is what Gilmore said about Grant
.
So he looked 'great' (I would say 'promising' more than great...his sack was off of a blown assignment, but I was definitely hopeful) in the 2nd game of the season, and then basically fell off a cliff the rest of the season and was completely silent in the spring, to the point that most analysts had him as a situational player only, and one who hadn't flashed in quite some time.
And because of him leaving, NOW we don't have a pass rush? We had one before, but bc our 3rd string DE left, now we don't? I'm having a hard time getting that logic.
In reality, Trumbetti showed WAY more than Hill last year (I think he'll break out this season). Okwara showed more. Even Blankenship showed more. If Trumbetti was leaving, then I'd be losing my shit and I could see your point. But a 3rd stringer? Not THAT big of a deal, especially not one to say that we're screwed because of him leaving.
I think for me and probably some others, it's the lack of proven talent. Talent is there (although I wish there was more of it), depth is there, experience will be there. I just hope by the end of this season, we'll be saying we have proven talent coming back. That's a major worry for me, personally.
What is wrong with our staff seriously the one kid who actually showed signs or flashes of greatness during blitz packages.
