Last few posts were pretty priceless.
About DeShone, I am really glad he declared.
In two years at ND he proved he had a lot more than what anyone gave him credit for having. Ability, speed, leadership, running, brains, desire, arm, etc.
I think he did about as much post-one-completion Spring Game, as anyone could have hoped for at ND.
I note that DK has some real shortcomings in his game, I just don't know how serious they are or if they are accentuated by Brian Kelly's offense and game play calling.
I look at NCState as a major turning point in this last season. Before that, we were waiting for DeShone, and the team to turn it around. At least I was. When I saw that strategy and play calling turd show in a hurricane, deep down inside, I packed it in, didn't you?
Bad enough that ND insisted the quarterback pass the ball 30 times in a hurricane, but look at the number of passes that were attempted where DK threw across his body, across the field for short attempted completions.
Then after the game, BK clearly threw DeShone under the bus. And it isn't that there is any argument about it being deserved, a mistake in the heat of the moment, a coach cracking down with discipline, or anything else like that :
He threw Sam Mustipher under the bus that day too, if you remember, and I saw one ball in standing water, with a wave of rain bouncing off the field, that went sideways out of his hands. That would have happened to anyone!
BK repeatedly threw DK under the bus during the season, and most of the time, many others on this site, and around the business questioned BK's play calling at the time.
This all after he told Malik, and his parents after the UVA game that it was still his team! Why would he even open his mouth while that was running through his mind? What a setup for future failure of anyone at QB!
With all that, this winter BK wanted to 'name DK as a captain early!' What bullshit! On that basis alone, were it me, I would have left too, no question.
So as far as the shortcomings in his game, I'm not sure DK would have been able to fix them at ND, with Sanford, and when Sanford left, that was the last call, so to speak.
DK interviews as well as, or better than anyone I have ever met. He is really, really smart. He is sincere. And he has a package some team is going to want bad enough to pay a lot to get him early, and set it up so he can grow into the system.
I had zero doubt since NCState that DK would leave, even though I really think he figured he would return, until he made the decision, right before he announced it. I can tell you DK's heart is with ND, without a doubt.
