Perhaps that was their answer to not having film on Texas' offense?
"Hey, we're a base 4-3 or 4-2-5 depending on who we're playing. We have young safeties that might be liabilities in deep coverage. BUT let's run this formation that they won't have much film on, which should absolutely not backfire, despite the fact that our personnel haven't built any unit chemistry yet, since we don't have film on their offense either!"
Seriously though, there are not many realistic things Kelly and co. could have done to throw the game against Texas. Wasting several drives with a QB rotation and trying a janky DB-heavy formation are two of them, and we did both.
