NVM. My bad fellas this was brought up by Barton Simmons. He's the one who spoke with Elam and it has nothing to do with Bartow. Reading and typing too fast while at work.

Simmons posting on BOL that many at the ceremony have thought he would end up at UK but lately it seems the momentum is shifting towards Bama.

I'm guessing BK talks to him on a regular basis as well, but would like to know the frequency.

I follow him on twitter and he definitely seems to be a Bama lean at this point.

Evidently Bama has a committable offer out for this DL if he can qualify. That tells me they probably aren't comfortable with Elam's recruitment.

Living in Kentucky, my least favorite website of all time is Kentucky Sports Radio. My Facebook and Twitter feeds are constantly full of that garbage from my UK-basketball-fan-friends.

Some qoutes from Elam.

More on Matt Elam:

quote:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another factor that helped the Irish was how they plan to use Elam as a freshman. With the impending departure of nose guard mainstay Louis Nix, Brian Kelly and his Notre Dame staff have been hammering home to Elam the opportunity to play right away.

“Louis Nix will be leaving and they say that’s the perfect opportunity to come in and start as a true freshman because they have nobody,” he said. “They say a lot of places you’re going to go like Alabama they have those five-star players and you’ve got to battle every day. I told him that would just make me better and he was like well, you can come here and you can start. He said there’s no competition. It’s all you. It’s all your choice if you want to get better.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

quote:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Right now though, Elam says it’s all even among his top three. Alabama, despite its national championships and undefeated record, has another factor that bodes well for Nick Saban.

“I would def say they’re probably the best relationship I have through all the colleges,” said the defensive tackle of Alabama. “Me and Coach (Lance) Thompson we talk about every day and me and Coach Saban we talk about every other week. I talked to Coach Saban last night. That was a good conversation.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

quote:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Home state that gets to me just that I can change the program to something better than just a 1-6 program, because they need great players to become a great team. It starts with instate players like me and Drew (Barker) so that’s a great pitch they’re throwing me right now. Then again I want to go to a program that wins because I’m a winner at heart and Alabama is def a winning tradition and program so that’d be a great place to go to.”

While the rest of his visit schedule is still in flux, Elam does plan on taking an unofficial visit to Tuscaloosa to see Alabama play LSU. Kentucky has indicated that December 14 is when they’d like to get him on campus for an official while Alabama has asked him to keep the second week of December available for an official.

Elam’s final decision will come in San Antonio at the Army Bowl.

I hear ya. It is constant overload and one of the most homer sites out there. Matt Jones has made a name for himself but since he doesn't contribute as much to the site anymore, it has gotten difficult to read on a regular basis.

I actually didn't mind Matt Jones until I tried following him on Twitter for a week haha.

Really? While this is more or less the case, I can't say I really like the "come here, play now" approach to recruiting. It gives kids a sense of entitlement that too often doesn't mesh well with the culture Kelly seems to be trying to build.

Also, someone ought to tell this kid that - while you can't win without them - defensive tackles don't in and of themselves win games, and that he's not going to be the difference between Kentucky going 1-6 in the SEC and Kentucky winning titles.

I was thinking the same thing stlnd01

just remember the grapevine game.....and also things they might want to hear play into what they hear...could have been as simple of BK saying..we don't have a pure nt/dt like you and you could easily step right in w/ the right work ethic, picking up the def etc

i agree with what you're saying, but i don't like the part where he tries to sway him from bama by saying you'll have to compete everyday. i would hope we've gotten to the point where the upperclassmen can at least push a guy younger than them regardless of the talent level.

again, could have been simple mix up in translation...at least i hope it was.

Per BOL, "sources" indicate Bama might have the inside track as he feels its the best place for NFL development and playing time. Apparently his mom is kicking around the idea of moving should he choose Bama or ND.
