Cornerback has been the position of priority for Notre Dame in the 2013 recruiting class for some time and on Thursday the Irish picked up a major priority for them at the position as Arizona cornerback Cole Luke confirms with Irish Sports Daily that he has committed to Notre Dame.
Luke gives the Irish 22 verbal commitments in the Class of 2012 and three cornerbacks, joining Devin Butler and Rashad Kinlaw.
The 6-foot-1, 170-pound Luke plays at Hamilton High School in Chandler, Ariz., for former Irish quarterback Steve Belles. In the end, Luke chose the Irish over offers from Texas and Oklahoma.
Luke took an official visit to South Bend in September and many speculated that the Irish still trailed other programs, but Belles saw things differently.
“Like I told him, if you’re basing it on academics and athletics, then you’ve already made your choice,” Belles told Irish Sports Daily afterward. “You can’t say you’re weighing academics – I hate to say it – if you’re talking about either of those two schools and trying to put them up against Notre Dame. There’s no comparison.
“In the end, I think Cole’s going to make the right choice.”
As far as the Irish are concerned, in the end, he did.
