meh. We need a WR who you can just throw it up to and trust to go up and get it ala Eifert. A WR like that attracts double teams and gets other receivers open.

Trust me they are nice, as I mentioned for the same reasons you did. I edited the post again. If you are balanced (run/pass) offense you don't need that kind of player all that often.

Between Daniels, Brown, Jones, Neal, and Ferguson I think we'll be just fine finding big plays on the outside. Go hard after treadwell and robinson because they are players but if we swing and miss no biggie. AQM and Redfield and call it another step to building a dynasty.

I say defense all the way, we have plenty of offensive firepower that is going to come into it's own w/ Daniels, Brown, Neal, GAIII, and Golson. I say keep loading up on the high end defensive players with the few remaining spots, there's a reason the SEC has dominated as of late and it's not offensive domination...

I don't know if we have a player on our roster who will be able to go up and get a ball like that next year.

The way I see it we don't need Treadwell at all.

Davaris and Fergie easily have the body types to be physical go up and get it receivers. Breezy will add strength and can jump out the stadium.

Losing Eifert sucks a big one but we are def. not hurting at TE. Niklas is a beast and I see no reason he can't fit in our pass game. Then you add the return of Welch, and the new addition of Mike H. I also hear Koyack has potential.

If you are still not sure about our wr's we have Hunter coming in who is an every down wr, and Onwualu is going to be really nice imo.

If Corey Robinson can't go up and get a jump ball for you then no one can.

Fuller may not impact immediately but is athletically gifted and will help this team in the slot.

WR and TE are not positions I am worried about at all!

There is no guarantee Treadwell could either so what good does he do?

AMEN! It's really the only reason ND is where they are this season, and also the reason that the SEC have dominated the national scene recently. It seems relatively obvious, build a great defense...and you win games.

It's like in the NFL, if you have a Pro Bowl QB, you'll likely compete in the playoffs each year. Yet some teams just don't get it, and they continuously suck. This can be translated to having a championship defense in College Football...build it and you'll win.

This.
Besides, I am looking forward to seeing EG doing much more zone read option and opening up the field a bit.

Maybe Koyack can become the talent we know he can be. Also, there is that big giant man who loves the pain to watch for.

The two biggest reasons you take max over treadwell.
1. Defense,defense,defense!
2. Sever the USC pipeline

Don't get me wrong, having a guy like Floyd is awesome. Almost unstoppable in the redzone, dictates coverages, can block his *** off. But, our offense has looked better, imo, without a guy like that and we don't need a guy like that to win.

This is a qb issue not a receiver or scheme issue. Think back to when we had Tate and Floyd ...hard to double team everybody.

Bingo.

I've already, unfortunately, marked Danny down as a decommit. At least for now. I really love his abilities and would love him to be Irish, but he seems like he's opening up his recruitment too much for my liking.

Finish:
AQM (supposed silent)
Redfield
Treadwell/Alexande
r

Would be awesome.

I don't see all of our current 2013 WRs staying at WR. I also think they will be great long term, but several will be projects. LT looks to me as a more ready-to-play option. I'm actually more concerned about TE. With Eifert leaving, we do not have a TE that has a TD, or significant experience. Hercules I think will get there, but he needs to improve on blocking. After that, not sure. Who knows where Mattingly ends up or how Heuerman will do. I'd like to think Koyak and Welch will improve, but haven't seen much. If Hercules goes down, I'd be really worried.

I am a little nervous about the lack of experience at RB next year without Wood, but I guess the reality is that Attkinson, Carlisle, McDaniel, Mahone, and James is pretty stacked.

Therefore, I would go with AM, MR, and Demarcus Robinson.

I don't like passing on Dlinemen ever, and I think MR is a difference-maker. I think we need a good boundary reciever who is big enough to win blocking consistently.

-MA and LT seem a little too distracted to be great fits at ND. Maybe I'm wrong.

- Folston would be great too, but I am not sure if there is room. I'd take him if DM bolts.

As for 5th years Watt and Martin are automatics. Fox and Wood are too, IMO. I don't think Wood is coming back though. So that is 3.

come on you're smarter than that dude.

no way we're better without mike floyd...why do you think eifert's production is going down this year?? he's getting all the attention that floyd got last year and floyd was good enough to still make plays with his speed and strength. not that eifert isn't good enough, but those two on the field at the same time and eifert flanked by floyd gave one on one matchups that killed opposing defenses.

There is an argument that the QBs were forced to develop without their safety blanket. But there is not one step along their development, including now, when the offense would not be MUCH, MUCH better with Floyd.

He drew so much attention and was just a nasty blocker.

can't tell if you're agreeing with me or not....all i'm gonna say is with floyd and eifert on the same side or on different sides it forces the defense to be more vanilla (with the exception of maybe elite defensive secondaries) floyd adds 10 points a game to our current output imo

This. I wasn't trying to say we are so much better. I just think our offense has looked like it is running smoother. As was mentioned our QB situation obviously plays a huge role in that.

I would love, love, love to have had Floyd on this years team.

My point was more to balance of weapons. I don't think you need a 1,000 yard receiver to win ball games.

I think our receiver position looks fine. Unproven yes, but so is Treadwell, as not one of them have played a down in college and it's all projections.

I am curious how Floyd would be utilized with Golson instead of Rees. TR basically had to key in on MF and Eifert and you can tell he still does when he is in the game. Without Floyd, yes, it forces the QB to progress more but we are now dealing with two different QBs. Hard to say honestly.

Anyone else agree that are class will be completed very soon since the Luke commitment. This shows the recruits that they need to hop on quick or your gunna miss out, could cause AQM to just commit now and redfield to hurry up

IF AQM was truly indeed a "silent verbal", he probably already would have informed the coaches. Otherwise, you'd hear more reports and write ups on Austin Hooper or Victor Egu.

Do we lose some guys to transfers after the season?
I think there will be some transfers and I think Massa will end up getting a medical scholarship. Massa wasn't getting the PT anyways and with his injury and all these Brian Kelly recruited WR's in the fold he's going to be at the very bottom of the WR depth chart so I think there will be an understanding that can't play which will open up a scholarship and allow him to finish his degree at ND while helping the program that he can still be a part of.

What's Luke's injury?

I kinda remember that...

Knee injury. ACL. Not career-threatening though. I believe he's fully recovered now.

We could put him on a medical, but isn't that the sort of shady stuff we condemn SEC schools for doing? Luke is healthy. He's just not that good. I don't know if I'm comfortable with putting him on a medical.
