Id be shocked if he was part of the 2014 class. This year is just not a great year for DTs reguardless of ND staff being picky as far as mold. Its comparable to last year not being a strong class with Middle Linebacker. This years class is not great at MLB guys, but better than the 2013 class as a whole. Not ND's fault, but Hayes can play inside or outside, but just from a shear talent now/potential in 2-3 years, there just isnt a lot of great prospects out there.

Id take Elam in a heartbeat, but he is probably farther away from being ready to play than Nix was. Nix has a drive that many dont have and that is why he is successful, and the jury is out on Elam to this point. He seems like a great kid but college life is just a 360 from the situation he is in right now. Discipline is going to make or break this kid at whatever school he chooses.

Not buying that he isn't ready for college life. No one is ever ready. He'll learn and adapt like everyone has to do, and fortunately for him ND has an amazing support staff that will make that adjustment as easy as possible.

Wouldn't 360 degrees put him right back in the direction he started? Soooo what you're really saying is he IS ready for college. Ahhhhh, I see what you're doing there. Sneaky sneaky!

Didn't Jason Kidd say he wanted to turn the Mavs around 360 degrees when he was drafted because they were so awful? Understandable mistake, but funny nonetheless.

I've been extremely concerned from the beginning of Elam's recruitment that when he gets to campus he's going to feel like he's Tony Hawk because the situation is going to be a complete 720 for him.

Yes, but he's going to give it 200% effort!

ND cannot miss on this kid... not only is it a DT, which we are beyond deperate for right now, but ND has got to start landing more of these defensive studs… we tend to react with an “oh well” tone when they slip by but what separate us from, say an Alabama, right now is really not anything more than about 1-2 five star defensive recruits a year and a stud packed O Line… we have seen the shift in the O Line and I think we can cross that box if the momentum there continues moving forward… what is left is the defensive studs…

We don’t need a Jaylon Smith or a Manti Teo… we need at least one of them, every single year… if not two… we got Redfield last year and Luke looks like the goods too.. but the Vanderdoes shizz is going to really hurt. ND, imo, to get back to the cream of college football has got to, A: tone down the schedule (a lot) or, B: start hitting homeruns consistently on the defensive side.

We have Redfield and Smith… this class ND needs at least one of the many five stars they are chasing… and all now seem to be long shots...

I guess you're just talking about defensive recruits, but, we do have a 5:s: in Nelson and Bars is right on the cusp on Rivals and could end up as a 5:s: before it's all over. This is still a very good recruiting class.

With that said, I hear you on being disappointed if we can't lock down one of the 5:s: guys we are chasing.

Juju is a very good shot, IMO.

You're premise is correct, but we need to start really landing high 4:s: and 5:s: players on the front 7. Games are won and lost in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

He told Wiltfong that Bama is his best relationship. Talks to Coach Thompson everyday and Saban once a week. Ryan Bartow will have more later.

I addressed this in my post...

anyway, it's not so much how many stars you get (ND usually gets their share) it's where the stars are... TE's and WR's will only get you so far... It's about the O Line and defense... and yes, as I already stated, the O Line recruiting is much better.

and yes, I forgot about JUJU there for a second... MUST. GET. Elam is moreso from a need standpoint alone.

so this might not be true??

Quite possibly, I think his work so far has been crap. I haven't went back and read what Bartow was saying but Wiltfong is the one that posted on BOL about Elam's best relationship is with Bama.
