there are no quality DT left in the class, the staff isnt really pursuing a DT this year... Enoch Smith in the 2014 class is their prime candidate. Early rumblings seem to suggest that Nix plans on coming back.

AQM
Redfield
Folston
Best available (Alexander, Treadwell, Robinson)

I expect a transfer or at least one decommit (it happens to every team these days)

This is where things start getting tough ... even granting you an unforeseen transfer/decommit, this leaves room for only 3 fifth-years. Still not sure how all that's going to shake out.

We got to have Martin, watt, fox. If wood wants to comeback you gotta take him. I think wood sees a crowded backfield and limited touches again next year and bolts to keep a year of tread on the tires.

Should be a good number right? Martin and Watt. Wood obviously if he wants to stay. If not, either Fox or Calabrese?

It's cutting it close. For depth I'd want both OL and both ILBs you've mentioned, as those are positions at which we are thin, and Wood is just a great player who can really help us. One of the OL and one ILB are absolute MUSTs for depth, and of course Cierre comes back if he wants.

I almost hope, in a way, that Martin and Wood go pro.

Crowded??? He would be the clear starter with GAIII as the second option.

Assuming no decommits Pete Sampson thinks we end with AQM + 1 of D. Robinson, Redfield, Treadwell.

Man that's interesting ... so let's assume for a second that AQM is a silent and we can only take one of D. Robinson, Redfield, Treadwell. NOT saying that's the case; just a hypothetical.

Which of those three guys would you want to finish with?

I'm thinking Redfield just because I am in a defensive state of mind right now, but we could definitely use a physical but dynamic play-making WR like D. Robinson or Treadwell.

Tough one ...

Watt and Martin are must. Wood, you can't turn that down. I don't think you can turn down Fox either. He has been a leader and a strong performer. Carlo would be a nice luxury to have.
Typically, we should have at least 1 player to transfer. It going to be interesting how things sort out. Everything should take care of itself in time though. I'm sure the staff has a strong plan regarding that matter.

I would go Redfield as well. He is just a difference maker on your defense. Also, you take him away from USC. Robinson and Treadwell are not likely to end up with anobody with play if I am not mistaken.

Redfield-Instant boost to special teams and provides that defensive mindset coach is looking for in his program.

Also, not saying this would happen, but if Redfield flips to us and Luke on board, Kinlaw can go to WR.

I'd personally go with Treadwell because we haven't gotten a big dynamic WR in a while. Treadwell just reminds me so much of Floyd. Even if we were full I highly doubt we'd turn down Redfield.

There are two spots left. Three with a decommitt.

Something just occurred to me ... We all assume that Fox is the better player and that we would prefer him if we have to choose between Fox and Carlo, but I wonder if the decision depends on the tendencies of the other ILBs. Maybe Kendall Moore is slated for the WILL next year, but he is stronger against the pass than the run. If so, then we would prefer to have Carlo back next year instead of Fox, if we had to choose, because Carlo is strong against the run and would complement Moore.

NOT saying I know or suspect any of this to be the case re: Moore; just wondering if the players' relative strengths may play into the decision if we have to choose between them.

Don't get me wrong, having a guy like Floyd is awesome. Almost unstoppable in the redzone, dictates coverages, can block his *** off. But, our offense has looked better, imo, without a guy like that and we don't need a guy like that to win.

Our offense looks better w/o a All American WR?

Yes, we are more balanced.

EDIT: Also, how many turnovers did we have trying to force it into Floyd. Part of that is the play calling at the time, part on Tommy but still.

I choose 4 wr's that are dependable, over 2 decent, 1 "blocking" wr, and an All-American super stud.

Bingo.

I've already, unfortunately, marked Danny down as a decommit. At least for now. I really love his abilities and would love him to be Irish, but he seems like he's opening up his recruitment too much for my liking.

Finish:
AQM (supposed silent)
Redfield
Treadwell/Alexander

Irish YJ

Agree to an extent. One thing to consider... we have a guy like you decribed in Eifert. We just haven't been able to get him the ball. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy we are running the ball, but our passing game must get better. We lose Eifert soon, and will not have a proven Eifert-like, or Floyd-like guy in RZ situations next year like we have the past 4-5 years. I agree we are winning without, but it is a tool that no good toolbox should be without.

Obviously, the internal decision will be more methodical and will consider the personel at hand. From an eye ball test, though, I would take Fox over Carlo. His ability to cover in space just seems like such a strong asset for Diaco's defense.
That said, I like Carlo very much. He's good against the run, and 5th year guys always find ways to be strong performers on your team.
Hopefully, there is a situation where we can get all the recruits we want and still keep both of these guys.
I am also looking forward to see what Grace can do.

meh. We need a WR who you can just throw it up to and trust to go up and get it ala Eifert. A WR like that attracts double teams and gets other receivers open.

I've heard Chris Brown is pretty good at jumping...

And I think we have the General's lineage coming through next year. We have guys that can go up and get it.

As much as Floyd was an incredible player, I tend to agree with NDdomer2. It would be interesting to see him play with someone of the likes of Golson, who doesn't key in on one player for the entire game.

Eifert will be gone next year.
