Sampson answered this on Twitter basically saying Zaire is as good as gone.

Zaire and his family pretty much putting this out there right now kind of shows the opposite of everyone saying what a great leader he is.

Everytime he hasn't beaten someone out for a job, he has pouted, he did it in 2014 and now this stuff.

I am high on Wimbush, and I think if we can redshirt him this year, he will have a great 2-3 years leading our team.

Zaire is gone because I don't believe Kelly promises anything if he stays and Kizer goes pro. Zaire won't want to lose his 3rd competition..

If Malik Leaves I wish him nothing but the best. Great kid. None of us would like sitting either or playing on the bench, it's hard to be positive when you only have so many years left to play. Actually Malik could have two more years left to play as he redshirt his freshman year and took a medical last year. Depending on where he goes if he does. He is responsible for leading us to our biggest bowl win in the Brian Kelly Era against LSU.

I'm a Wimbush skeptic. I think he has a cannon and he has some wheels but I think anything will seem like a downgrade after Kizer. He's just so calm in the pocket as he goes through his reads.

Wimbush seemed a bit too frantic last year but perhaps those were just freshman jitters. I hope he's mentally taking all the reps because we'll need him ready for next season.

Uhhh you think? Of course it was the fact he was a FR with no real playing or practice experience.

Yeah - do you remember how bad Kizer looked in mop up duty against Texas last year?

Bueller....

Twitter handle anyone?

This.

He'll leave at the semester unless DK gets injured and MZ was the starter for a late bowl / playoffs.

He couldn't wait for DK to announce and I don't think that matters anyways. I think he needs a fresh start for his last year. He has aspirations to play professionally, I'm sure he feels that will be best accomplished at another program where he can show what he's capable of for an entire season.

I understand this, but I also have a problem with it. I really don't want the distraction of having a player on the team that is not all in on finishing the season. This is drama that we don't need.

I think you are looking too far into it.

Malik knows that he's one play away right now, but he also knows that he'll be graduated and able to find a situation where he is 100% THE guy next year, which isn't a guarantee at ND for several reasons.

I don't think you need to worry about Malik being a distraction or not giving 100% whenever he sees the field this year.

The true distraction will be how many times the camera shows him on the sidelines over the next two or three games.

I may be looking too far into it, but as stated above every time things don't go his way there is drama. I don't doubt that he will give 100% while on the field. But, if we do make a good run this season and make it to the playoffs or a major bowl, do you really want your back-up QB to leave at the end of the semester and not be here for that?

I don't think he'd leave before the bowl game. I think there is a bit of confusion about the "leave at the end of semester" thing. He graduates at the conclusion of the semester, but that doesn't mean he's leaving right away.

He'll be able to enroll basically anywhere as a Grad Student as long as it's before February.

EDIT: Crusader made a different comment somewhere else yesterday, but I won't try to track it down. It seems I am the one now misinterpreting things. I guess things changed over the past 24 hours.

Yeah, I was going off the latest comments from NDC that make it seem like he will leave immediately after the semester and enroll elsewhere.

Sometimes family say things players aren't. ESB's Dad spoke out about his thoughts on ND's S&C program, I haven't heard anybody attribute those same feelings to ESB himself. If you have a link or a quality source sayng Malik himself is putting this out there, you need to post that for all of to see.

Yeah, I was going off the latest comments from NDC that make it seem like he will leave immediately after the semester and enroll elsewhere.

Let me say this right now, everything I say is my personal speculation and opinion. If I have a fact to relay to the world, I'll source it. Don't think because you think I know something that I do. I don't follow a single person on Twitter, I do not have a Twitter account. I even shut down my FB account until after the election because Trump and Clinton zombies. So I have not seen anything regarding a family member meltdown or Malik saying he would leave besides Sampson's tweet that was posted here.

I can say, in the current world of college football I would leave if I was MZ. He's fulfilled his commitment to the University and there is an heir apparent to takeover. I would expect him to be with the program until the last game is played. It would be an extremely bad look if he left with games left on the docket. That is not to say he wouldn't stay at ND for the spring, I have no information to say he wouldn't. I'm just saying I would leave and essentially EE at my grad transfer school. (If that's possible per the NCAA rules. I have no idea about time tables for enrolling and number of semesters a grad transfer school is allowed to extend?)

I have my fingers crossed it's Syracuse so he can get a masters from Newhouse. I would love to see Malik in broadcasting down the road. He reminds me of Mateen Cleaves, one of my favorite studio analysts ofr basketball. I have not heard this as being an option fyi.

This is how I used to feel until tonight's social media implosion by his dad. What an embarrassment.

Calling a parent an embarrassment is funny when you think of all the things that are said on message boards about their son.

I agree that he probably should just keep quiet and not use the Internet to illustrate opinions, I think people on message boards should most times do the same.

If you saw what he posted, you'd know I was being polite calling his posts an embarassment.

I hope Malik stays....can't say I've ever rooted for a guy to succeed at Notre Dame this much before.

Suppose it depends on how far along Wimbush is.
I hope kizer stays for his senior year, with wimbush as the backup. zaire can go to LSU and save les miles job.

Nope. I think Miles gone after this year. And if they really suck, he's gone before then.

But MZ would be a great fit in an offense like that.

Thanks for the explanation. I took your opening sentence as you were stating it as a fact and that was the reason for my response. I hope MZ stays beyond just the end of the semester and sticks through the Bowl/playoff run.

Without seeing JoJo striking out, I think, based on everything I have heard, if I were BK I would call MZ into my office and have a heart to heart.

First if I were BK I would know where DK stood, having another year of eligibility.

If DK is gone this year, I would try to offer MZ next year. If he blanched, I would allow him to get ready to go this year, and bring Book and then Wimbush along as backups.

Makes business sense.

Including Wimbush makes bad business sense. I say this as a fact as it came out of Team Wimbush's mouth. Team Wimbush expects to be redshirted this year.

MZ will be fine as the #2. He'll get his chance to shine sooner or later, before or after.

No one is surprised by this, right? It's easy to be rah rah when you're the guy. It's much harder to do it as a backup. I don't blame Malik and I think it seemed pretty obvious we were going to lose one. As much as we want to say these guys love the team and blah, blah blah, they only have so much time to play. Malik lost his competitions, he'll get his degree and move on. That's fine. I wish him nothing but the best. I would like him to be locked in for his last season here though.
