It's interesting to me because why would you go to a school with 6 TEs (if you sign), a worse education, and that hasn't currently shown any ability to use any of the TEs on the roster effectively... versus a school that didn't even take a TE in last year's class and will have put 4 straight TEs in the NFL as top 2 round picks when you sign? Unless you really want to play with your brother (at the same position?) and/or buy the BS Urban sells.... I just don't see it logically adding up.

With that being said, I thought he was an OSU stone cold lock before power hour yesterday and I'll go ahead and stick with that.

The thing that troubles me most is that he said he is very close with Aaron Lynch and that he talks to him ~3 times a week and that Lynch was "very honest" with him.

With all that has happened in the past week, does that hurt us? Maybe. Let's say on one hand his brother loves OSU and on the other hand his close friend Aaron Lynch is not a happy camper... that probably has a big impact.

I dunno... I guess we'll see in a couple weeks.

Here is what I don't get (IrishLax, nothing against you, just using this as an example). People are saying that Lynch is a potential negative here.

Why is that? Because he went home and missed a practice? Days after fighting? I haven't seen it anywhere what really happened, I we probably won't ever see it. For all we know, he could have broken the fighting rule on Monday. Who knows.

Now, Lynch hosted Mike and wasn't sugar coating it. Now, correct me if I am wrong, but isn't that the way the staff recruits? I can imagine that Lynch said it was a tough place, you had to study and the weather sucked. ND isn't for everyone, but isn't that the message the staff normally goes for? If you want it easy, go somewhere else. IF you want to challenge yourself and grow, come to ND. Besides, the staff is much closer to Lynch than any of us and I am sure they are well aware of what he thinks of the University and would not sign him up to host if they didn't think he was going to help.

I am not saying we get Mike, but I just don't understand the doom and gloom with Lynch's relationship with him.

Yes. This.
We've had trouble, historically, retaining kids from California and Florida who get to South Bend and find out the winters suck and you do have to go to class and parietals are for real and have a host of great programs back home that would just love to take them as transfers. Wouldn't we rather someone like Aaron Lynch be "very honest" with a recruit he knows, and lay out both the pluses and minuses of Notre Dame football as he's experienced it, than have people blow smoke up a recruit's *** and say it's all sunshine and roses? Isn't that better for all involved?
Like the accountant said, Notre Dame's not for everyone. Seems wiser to understand that upfront. And if Heuerman decides it's for him, so much the better.

I don't necessarily disagree with anything you said. But I can't see it as a positive. The best I can give it is a neutral.

He says he talks to him multiple times a week. There is no way he was going to come up to ND and not be hosted by Aaron. IF Lynch dislikes Notre Dame to the point that he wanted out (by some accounts) or otherwise has a lot of bad things to say... that can't be positive. And I've heard from multiple non-public sources that the past few weeks Aaron has been far from a happy camper. But... like you said... none of us here know the full story; just what has been reported. So speculation like mine is basically pointless.

I think it's important that we're straight forward with kids because you don't want them getting here and going "what!? I have to work!? and go to class!?" There is definitely a lot of value to this approach in the long run. But in the short term, I think there are more negatives to that approach in securing the initial commitment.

For instance, I bet if we told Ezekiel Elliot that he was our #1 RB and we'd use him like Percy Harvin he would have committed. Instead, we told him the honest to God truth that we might use him as a CB or a RB. Kids are always going to go where they feel most wanted and most comfortable and most of the time an honest take isn't the most comforting one possible.

Just my 2 cents.

Speaking from personal experience, if a current player was speaking harshly about a program, I would drop that program immediately. On one of my recruiting trips all my host did was talk about how shady the team was. When i went to speak with the HC before i left, i told him his school wasnt for me... point being if what Lynch was saying is negative then you can rest assured that heuerman wouldnt keep ND in his top 4. Hearing how great of a school and a program are but as long as you know you have to do .... or ..... its not the same kind of negative IMO.

obviously all speculation since we have no idea what Lynch is saying, but id assume if it was how uncomfortable, awful coaching, or homesick he is, then heuerman is not keeping ND in the mix til the end

Didn't Heuerman say we were in this top 3 on Power Hour just the other day in the midst of the Lynch drama? Aaron must not have had much negative to say.

Pure speculation based upon reading a few pOSU message boards and reading a few tea leaves, but my best guess is that Heuerman will chose pOSU.

4/10/12 Heuerman contacted pOSU where he talked to UM immediately after the surprise commitment of Marcus Baugh TE, and said based on that discussion, Baugh's commitment will have no impact on his decision.

4/11/12 pOSU board on Elevenwarriors states that their other main target at TE, Josh McNeil, who most were speculating would commit at the spring game is now not planning on attending at all. I can't get any confirmation at this point of the visit being cancelled.

I'm guessing that Heuerman got some "reassurances" (I'm guessing they are both going to be Hernandez. LOL) on how Baugh and him would be used and Heuerman said I want the other spot. McNeil cancels his visit because both TE slots in this class are now taken.

I would feel a whole lot better about our chances if McNeil were to actually attend the spring game.

Today I'm a little more hopeful on Heuerman as it seems that the answer to why McNeil isn't going to pOSU's spring game was buried amongst his huge volume of tweets.

Back on 4/9 (day earlier then Baugh's committment) he tweeted that he wasn't coming to the spring game because he said he was planning on driving up with teammate and pOSU signee Jamal Marcus. The only catch was that Marcus wanted to get up there early to watch some practice so he decided to fly instead. By the time McNeil found out, it was to late to buy a ticket (I'm assuming he meant it was to late to buy a reasonably priced ticket).

Sounds reasonable I guess.

Mike retweeted a T. Eifert tweet today. Man that good gut feeling is coming back especially when I dont see any O$U stuff on his twitter. I probably am reading to much into it but let me be blissful in my ignorance! :)

Might have more to do with his taste in country music than his taste in schools, though. I'm more encouraged by his exchanging tweets with Onwualu (J Walls)

“@BIBTY_12: Decision date has been moved! More info coming later on”

TE Josh McNeil, has OSU in lead and the U in 2nd most think. Would love to have him commit to OSU before the 27th but more likely scenario is that he is committing to the school that Heuerman does not

Would love to hear about the conversation that Lynch had with this guy... Kind of surprised that the staff paired the two with Lynch experiencing homesickness.

Hopefully Mike understands that everyone is different

" ... Calculus, NO Bikinis, NO free tatoos, and phone sex isn't the same thing."

Since he has a brother at OSU, Heureman already knows about midwest weather. He probably didn't know athletes are expected to go to class and have to compete in the classroom with Academic All-Americans.

I don't know if that has too much bearing on Mikes decision. His brother goes away to school in freaken OHIO (just sayen, not like its a huge step, if any, above Indiana) . Though Lynch and Heuerman are from the same region on Gulf Coast FL. The schools they went too and the towns are totally different....
