Somebody on reddit claimed that he may have caused problems in the locker room at ND. It's the first I'd ever heard of that. Is that true?

He seems like a guy who was confident...in fact supremely so, but he seemed like a guy that'd make you laugh and such moreso than be conceded and divisive.

He learned Diaco and BVG's super complicated and sophisticated playbooks.

Wait, I thought Diaco's was simple by most standards, which is why Alabama was allowed to exploit it and why young CBs did well in 2012 as first time starters?

He was pretty dang good in 2013 too, especially towards the end, not as much during the Michigan game that year if I recall. He was effectively going to be our first real lock down corner that we had in some time, then 2014 occurred and Diaco left. Either rust or lack of understanding of BVG's system caused him to struggle on his return in 2015, although he had his moments like in the USC game. He probably could have benefited from one more year before going pro, he has talent.

Agreed. Let's not forget that Nix and Tuitt and KLM likely helped make him look good.

Russell will be picked up... If you are going to be drafted in the third round, I think you leave school... Typically a first three round draft pick is solid, and its really hard for a CB to become a first or second round pick without being a lockdown corner which KVR was not

Will be interesting to see how he does. If he balls out, what does that say about BVG's scheme... lol.

So much promise at the end of the 2013 season. Unrealized potential. Not sure he jived with BVG's system until the later half of the season last year.

He was the last CB on the depth chart, struggled to learn the playbook.

Is anyone THAT surprised? Him already being released he must have reallyyyy struggled. He had safety help his freshman year and he wasn't good last year at all. He's a freak but never a great corner. He will tell you he's the best corner though. If only he talked as well as he played. Good luck Kei with your next team.

Okay. Who wants to run over to the BVG thread and trash him for not being able to win with the talent he had? Or maybe for not developing Kei into the corner he always thought (said) that he was?

I smell acting career.

Except the fact that Diaco's playbook wasn't complicated and sophisticated. Zone. And I don't think there is much proof that Kei ever learned BVG's playbook. Think about it; missed a year, then he was rusty, then he would have great breakdowns, but come back with really athletic plays. Wasn't he just out doing his own thing last year? Kind of like Max?

We often heard that young guys and or backups weren't able to get on the field because the schemes (Diaco's and BVG's) were complicated and players needed more time to learn the system and scheme.

In reality were/are they? No, I don't actually think so. But I think it makes coaches feel better to say that when asked about a player's playing time (or lack thereof).

Well, Cody Riggs was added back to the Titans so.... Russell may be passed by the Titans...

Hearing here in KC that it was just a numbers game. The Chiefs have a deep roster with a lot of guys they like, he was the second draft pick from this years draft cut. I still think it was surprising and there are a couple dudes I wish they would have let go instead, but DJ White a corner they drafted this year in the sixth was ahead of him on the depth chart as well as two second year guys. Hopefully he goes and has a great career in Cinci.

Russell should fit in nicely in the Cincy secondary, especially since they lost their first round pick at cornerback and have health questions in general. Dennard has plenty of time to be a good corner still, but he's been banged up off and on since he was drafted. Adam Jones is a million years old.

With Jones, Kirkpatrick and Dennard at the top 3 spots, Russell is a really nice fourth option, and will be a HUGE piece on special teams. I love it.

I think it'll be one of the moves they'll regret. KVR is a good corner, I'm tired of hearing people talk sh*t about his game. He provided a spark in a number of our games. He turned the tide in 2 USC games: one was the hit he laid on Nelson Agholor to jar the ball loose before he completed the catch. If you recall, he laid on the ground for a solid 2-3 mins.

The other was the fantastic interception over JuJu. KVR is a player and he'll find a home. He just needs time to learn the system and stay healthy.

Just pulled in a spectacular INT near the end of Bengals-Ravens.

I've been waiting to see him in action. He could be a key 4th corner and special teamer next year.

When I read things like this I think the 2015 defense should have been really good. BVG really did less with more while at ND.

My roommate was actually randomly assigned to a group project with him this semester and said he was super focused and put in a lot of work on it. A lot of players who leave early don't make getting the degree a priority, so good for Keivarae
