There's speculation that he was released in conjunction with restructuring Justin Houston's contract to trade for or pick up a pass rusher

Kei is not expected to clear waivers.

Interesting.. He was only making $653,282 against the cap for this year, doesn't seem like that much.

Kei was guaranteed $2,475,000, so you wonder why, if he was guaranteed $450,000 this year, why they wouldn't keep him to develop... I am calling bs on the cap space.

no, they just restructured houston's deal and with this allows much more...they are adding a player...i wouldn't be surprised to see Hayden traded from cleveland to chiefs

I'm in KC and a Chiefs fan. Has to be a trade coming for a CB, Haden makes sense w/ the Browns being garbage and the clearing of cap room. They drafted a couple DB's after Kei that were active week 1 and he wasn't but still, as talented as he is and as high as they picked him I am shocked. No way they can sneak him on to the practice squad. I was so pumped when they drafted him, total bummer.

I hope it's Haden from a Brown's fan perspective. Most overrated player in the league. Talks. Good game but can't cover any elite receivers anymore.

So much promise at the end of the 2013 season. Unrealized potential. Not sure he jived with BVG's system until the later half of the season last year.

Is anyone THAT surprised? Him already being released he must have reallyyyy struggled. He had safety help his freshman year and he wasn't good last year at all. He's a freak but never a great corner. He will tell you he's the best corner though. If only he talked as well as he played. Good luck Kei with your next team.

He was pretty dang good in 2013 too, especially towards the end, not as much during the Michigan game that year if I recall. He was effectively going to be our first real lock down corner that we had in some time, then 2014 occurred and Diaco left. Either rust or lack of understanding of BVG's system caused him to struggle on his return in 2015, although he had his moments like in the USC game. He probably could have benefited from one more year before going pro, he has talent.

Yeah, I'm shocked. Not because he got passed up by two other draft picks, but because it's exceedingly rare for anyone picked 3rd round and higher to be released before their second year. It almost never happens, because with the signing bonus and guaranteed money it makes very little sense. So he must've REALLY sucked, or there must be a different angle to the story.

Lax and ulu good points and that's what I mean he obviously is really struggling and has never really progressed as a football player. He's a freak on the field but I think he struggles understanding the game of football. He was good in the second half of the USC game but he was almost benched in the first half. The talent is there but with Russell it's all about what he could be and now we might be looking back at what could have been instead of what he should be. He needed to come back to school but in his eyes he was the best corner in the draft. Hopefully this is a wake up call for him that he's not all that. He thinks he is and maybe this will bring him down to earth because he's a great kid, everyone raves about him but he's full of himself which you need some guys like that in the locker room but he's never once backed it up.

He is not the first third rounder to (apparently) struggle. That's what makes this so shocking. Teams will take a year at minimum to develop a third rounder. I suspect there is something else going on.

my first thought would be casualty of other more serious roster priorities. You cut him, and keep the cheaper guys who are playing as well to do...something?

He is enough of an athlete where he can at least be a special teams guy until he figures it out. He isn't lazy, he isn't burned out, he doesn't seem to have chemical issues...he'll be around the NFL for 4-6 even if he doesn't become a starting corner.

So being cut so soon, what does he walk away with $ wise from the Chiefs being drafted in the 3rd?

He can't be any worse than what the Browns currently have in their secondary....

Either that or practice squad.... I mean - until his injury a couple years back, the NFL world wanted him then......

**Update** - Radio reporting Titans are trying to contact his agent. Will keep listening in case something comes up on Nashville end.

He probably could have used a little more time in the playbook or working on learning the D then posting daily selfie videos of him lip syncing in his car on his instagram story too.

It is very difficult to make an NFL 53 man roster. There are not many people on Notre Dame's team that should consider leaving before they have exhausted their eligibility.

In Kev's case, I believe the year off really hurt him. It took him a while to get comfortable on the field. I believe another year in school would have benefitted him greatly. The problem that I worry about is if these kids begin to think they are not being developed in the program, and think they might as well try the league. BVG needs to show that he can coach up college kids.

I like to envision the posters avatar saying what's posted, it works wonders in presidential thread(example anything buster says). I'm envisioning yours just stalking his Instagram. Ty for the lawls

Somebody on reddit claimed that he may have caused problems in the locker room at ND. It's the first I'd ever heard of that. Is that true?
