'11 SC QB Everett Golson (FSU transfer)

Tough to know for sure. Golson has not played against an opponent whose defense was as tough as Clemson. We know all too well how he does in pressure games. While he might have played better than Maguire...he also might have played much worse.

2012 Bama D would like a word with you. In case you were wondering, that D was definitely at least as good as this Clemson D and Golson (a RS Frosh) was one of the few bright spots on a HUGE stage.

Jimbo made a mistake and is catching heat for it.

EG should have been out there, and they may have won. Regardless of what we think of Golson, Jimbo knows EG came into his house last year and played snap for snap with the #1 pick in the draft.

Agree Golson's more talented and more experienced on the big stage. Gotta wonder if Jimbo went with Maguire for leadership/intangible/raise the rest of the team's game sort of reasons.

I think EG was cleared for the game but didn't have a full week of practice leading up to it.

Yeah, Jimbo definitely said that both QBs were available, but it may have been posturing to try to keep Clemson preparing for two very different looks. Given how ineffective Maguire was in the first half, it's hard to believe that Jimbo wouldn't have turned to Golson if he was actually available.

Not leading this team, I think Golson would have cost us a few games. Everything worked out as it should. He probably would have taken over for Zaire if Zaire ended up starting over him and getting hurt, but I'm glad everything happened the way it did. Everett did what he thought was best for him, and Jimbo rolled the dice and lost even though they won today.

That's the right call for FSU... not so much for EG's play IMO but rather to prepare Maguire for next season.

Transfers that didn't quite work out as planned

Everett Golson, Florida State QB: Golson had time in the summer that Vernon Adams did not, but never had that midseason transformation that indicated he was fully settled into the Florida State offense. Though immensely talented, Golson never looked uncomfortable and was eventually replaced because of injuries and the recurrence of costly turnovers after a strong start to the season without interceptions or lost fumbles.
