I’m fairly confident the west side of Michigan has more guns than people. That said, it does have its fair share of Walmart Wolverines. However, there are a tremendous amount of ND fans. I’d say southwest Michigan is about 70/30 Notre Dame fans due to geography. I personally live closer to South Bend than Ann Arbor or East Lansing. But the further east you go, the loonier, more atheist, and more crime ridden it gets.

I love my little nook on the west side near the lake. It’s pretty heavenly in the summer (other than the a holes from Illinois that bombard our beach towns all summer and act like us locals are supposed to behave like we live in Chicago). Essentially most pay no attention to our governor over here. But, Michigans west coast is not quite to the level of Hawaii’s beauty, to bring it back to Manti.
My brother just got back from lake trout chartered trip out that way now i got ten lbs of trout in my freezer that i have no idea what to do with

She flat out asked him if he was a homosexual on national tv.
The way he answered it was cringe worthy, but his head was spinning form all of this.

Like I said earlier, I wish he still had a year of eligibility left and could've stayed in school until this blew over.
Yea that was not cool at all. Never liked Katie Couric. Talk about smug.

Wow - the last scene of that documentary is tough to watch. I feel like Manti still has some brokenness from this whole experience.

The Deadspin guys and Ronaiah are obviously taking absolutely no responsibility in their part of this. I know I watched it through the lenses of a ND fan, having more information than the average person watching, but I hope people can see that the actions of those three are really disgusting and they still don't seem to understand how badly they messed with Manti.

Lol. I lived in Notre Dame, Indiana for 3 years. Better run state no doubt. Not as pretty though, that’s for certain. I live on the conservative west side. We don’t pay much attention to her or the freaks running things to the east. No joke, people on the east side wear masks alone while driving and 21 year old college students wear them outside. It’s a strange world over there. 😂
I live here too, and can confirm that the west side of the state, from Grand Rapids all the way up to Traverse City/Petoskey is absolutely beautiful. Same goes for the east side when you get north of Saginaw and get into "up north" territory. It's a fun state to live in, I just loathe the football teams here, haha. My grandparents relocated from South Bend to SE MI decades ago.

Raised their kids and grandchildren the right way, bleeding blue and gold among the skunkbears and Spartans (who I don't mind nearly as much).

Dan Patrick talked about it this morning. Said pretty much the same thing. A new appreciation for Manti, cringed when Katie Couric asked the question and felt he had a little culpability, but this was basically all on Lennay or whatever they call themselves.

It was really weird to me that through the first episode and a half, Ronaiah was clearly taking a position of guilt and remorse what for what happened, but then got all pissed about him sharing the voice mails? As if those were supposed to be special to Manti...after what you did, you have no claim to be pissed about anything that Manti did after this went public. He was trying to do whatever he could for damage control and it was still an absolute mess for him.

I hope this documentary gives Manti some closure; I'm sure it certainly gave a lot of fans closure and hopefully it shines a brighter light on his public perception. There are always going to be those anti-ND assholes who will continue to ignore the facts and continue to rip on the guy, but people like that aren't worth Manti's time regardless.

We banned Deadspin/Gawker posts on this site after the whole ordeal because it was journalism malpractice. I take solace in the fact that Deadspin died and many got their comeuppance. I do respect that Tim Burke has acknowledged errors in the initial reporting (even if he has downplayed them) and some contrition over what happened in the aftermath. He's more of a professional than some of the others, and he really did want to make it a story about media malpractice (ironically). That's not how his editors ultimately published it. They made it a hit piece on ND and Te'o with the focus being speculation that he was "in on it." This is what drove so much of the narrative.

It's worth noting that ESPN also had the story at this time, but was waiting to publish because they were fact checking. Is what it is, I understand wanting to be "first" but there's no reason to print speculation except that it made the story more salacious than saying "We don't know yet."

Deadspin was good at what they did.

I thought it was funny that they pretty much admitted that they would typically give people a chance to respond before busting a story like this, but they "figured they had given Te'o and the university enough time" and wanted to be first on it.

In other words, they stopped caring about doing the right thing and instead published it before getting all the details because they wanted to be first with the scoop. This is a hilariously ironic thing to do when your reason to make the story anyways was to apparently prove how poorly the initial story had been fact checked by the media.

I tried to be empathetic to Ronaiah. I really did. I appreciate she has and is facing challenges I don't understand. In the end, I wanted more acknowledgement and personal accountability for the scale of the damage caused. Maybe if she spent more time talking about what she owes, and less about her journey.

I have always hated Deadspin for what they did. Even as this story came back up, I still have friends (who hate ND) convinced that he was in on it, convinced he's gay, and/or even convinced ND made the whole thing up. The doc did make me really wonder how the hell everyone missed this in real time. Did no one in the media or ND PR ever try to rundown Lenay's story? Not even from a speculative perspective - even if just trying to exploit the story further? I also lost any respect for the Deadspin guys for getting the story. An anonymous tip? So you didn't even run this down on your own? You were just first then. Not right. Not proactive and probing. Just first. And wrong.

I also feel really terrible for Manti, worse today than 9 years ago. He is clearly a broken person. I can't even comprehend the shame, humiliation, helplessness and disappointment. To have achieved such glory on the field, yet to be remembered for something else. To have such a loving and supportive family, and yet feel so alone. To have no way to fix this, despite his best efforts. I hope he finds peace and success in another realm.

I conclude that Manti was a hero. And heroes fall. Ultimately, Manti needed a hero, and none could be found. BK, Jack, his agent, Robby, his family, real journalists, etc... may not have been to blame, and perhaps they did their best to help, but none were heroic. And so the hero falls.

Such a sad story.

I typically look for an underlying reason, but I have no empathy for her. There were so many times when they had the opportunity to break it off, yet kept the charade going. Being confused about your sexuality is one thing, but taking steps like reaching out to the real Lennay to get a pic with the current date has nothing to do with being sexually confused.

The plan is he's going to speak to the team and will be walking with them from mass to the stadium.

I like this on a number of levels. Motivational tactic from the coaches and Manti getting to come back now that his NFL career is over is hopefully a good experience for him.

And they need to get the dubya.

Such an awesome person! Last weekend I hosted a High School reunion for the fellas. Most of them had never heard of Manti but did watch the Netflix series (I haven't yet). The 100% consensus was that he was this great guy that was too trusting.

Great to see him at "Home".

Cheers and Go Irish!!

Special moment before the game, raw emotion. I loved seeing him out there and the place went nuts.

Not directly Manti related, but always a good day when another loser from Deadspin crashes and burns.
