He also sounds like a long shot, IMO.

Yeah I agree... I would think that Stanford's and ND's academics are similar enough that ND's wouldn't make him want to drop Stanford. Not to mention the recent success of both their football team and recruiting. Can always hope though... maybe he will see the recent recruiting success of ND, the hopefully good season we put on the field, and the hopeful return to the middle of the pack by Stanford in the era AfterLuck.

I think his recruitment will come down to performance on the field. We NEED to show some progress on the field this year. No recruit wants to join a program that is stuck in neutral.

That's a lot of hoping. I eagerly await the time when I will just know ND will be top5 again.

Beating Stanford in our head to head matchup could very well decide this recruitment

I think how much closer we are is the big separator between us and Stanford.

Driving to Cali is actually fun if you have the right group of people with you.

Yeah, ND is about an 11 hour drive from Richmond, where I believe Randolph is from. Not like you can go home for the weekend or anything but at least its driveable at the semester and mid-semester breaks without being a cross-country odyssey. May matter to him, but may not. If all his family members are doctors, he may not sweat the airfare like some kids would.

I'm not super-optimistic about this one. If I came from a family of doctors and truly wanted great academics and great football, Stanford would be tough to pass up right now. I don't see us getting him unless he develops really great relationships with the staff and other incoming players (Prosise alone won't be enough) and just falls in love with ND. From what he told 247 he is still interested in coming back and learning more about ND, so hopefully we can still wow him.

Regarding earlier comments too much to quote I believe its:

CAT Drennon
DOG Randolph
MIKE 1) Anzalone 2) Mastrogiovanni: Alex > Jordan
WILL Smith ( but smith could play all 4)

I vote that we kick Stanford's *** this year. Who's with me?

Premium article on 247 talks about Doug wanting to take more visits. Right now he maintains he's still committed to Stanford, but comes out and explicitly states how much he loved Notre Dame and that we're right behind the school he is committed to.

The other schools in the running are UVa, Penn State, and Michigan... with him planning trips to UVa and Penn State.

IMO, the big takeaway from this article is that he seems in no rush to finalize a decision. He's happy staying "committed" to Stanford while taking visits and deciding which option is actually going to be best for him.

I don't expect a firm decision before the end of the football season.

Lax has said previously he has driven from the DC area to South Bend many times.

I've made the trip a few times from NOVA and it is about 9 hours with a couple of short stops. The drive is not too bad actually. I think it would be about the same for Mr. Randolph, if not a little less. That being said, I wouldn't think airfare would be a huge issue for the family if both parents are doctors and this kid has a full ride.

Also, on Power Hour Christian said that he hears that Randolph is still gushing about his ND trip. We really made a great impression on him...

We beat Stanford and were good I think

Does Stanford play anyone cable of beating them besides ND, Oregon, or USC?

Same school as C.J. right? I would assume he does a good deal of recruiting for us.

I feel really good about this guy even though he is verballed to the tree.

I would find it hard to believe that a kid of this caliber (brains, family, opportunities and all) would base his college (and thus life) choice on who was to win that game. Now if you look at the season in total and make an assesment as to the direction of each program, that may be a bit more plausible. Basing that decision on a single game seems to be a bit simplistic to me.

Further, in keeping with the way this board works, it's "we're" and "capable". :)

Me2SB, he said we need to prove they that ND can be better than Stanford on and off the field

So Even though I think a head to head will flip him it is stupid that this is Stanfords schedule compared to ours

2012 Stanford Football Schedule
Sept. 1 - San Jose State
Sept. 8 - Duke
Sept. 15 - USC
Sept. 27 - at Washington
Oct. 6 - Arizona
Oct. 13 - at Notre Dame
Oct. 20 - at California
Oct. 27 - Washington State
Nov. 3 - at Colorado
Nov. 10 - Oregon State
Nov. 17 - at Oregon
Nov. 24 - at UCLA
Nov. 30 - Pac-12 Championship Game

I wasn't aware of any specific comments he had made. Thanks for the insight. They open up against a couple of real dynasties. I see 7 games ND would win on that schedule simply by rolling out of bed.

I think UW is on the rise. That will be a tricky game after the USC game and on the road.

UW has a good O but the D is horrendous. You have to out toughen Stanford to beat them
