Also, I watched Green Street Hooligans 2 last week.

I actually liked it, it started off so weak because I had a tough time understanding them with their accents. But the fight scenes (which were about every 5 minutes) were pretty good.

It was predictable with the one dude sending his thugs to hold the wife hostage. but I liked how it was solved in a simple manner. The Russian sent his boys. Haha.

Umm, honestly not much of it resembled Taken except the guy. It was a good movie, I just don't think it was as good as Taken, for my personal taste.

Just saw Unknown tonight and I completely agree with this analysis. Good movie but Taken is better IMO. Both are set in Europe & w/ Liam, but those are the only similarities.

Movies I recently watched that were good:

Zombieland
Restrepo
Law Abiding Citizen
Syriana
Memento
Tons of documentaries

Anyone else got some recommendations?

Don't know if you also have HBO On Demand - but if you liked Restrepo - you'll love "The Battle of Marjah" which is a lot like Restrepo. Definitely a must watch.

Taken w/ Liam Neeson

Really underrated movie. I actually took my gf to see it during the Valentine's Day weekend 2 years ago and even she liked it.

Love Taken. If you have a daughter like myself it will make you want to kick some serious ***.

On a separate note, DO NOT watch The Other Guys with Ferrell and Wahlberg. Horrible movie.

If you have Netflix and haven't watched the Showtime show "Weeds," I recommend that you add it to your que. Seasons 1-6 are currently part of the Instant Play, so you can stream them and not even have to use up any of your movie rentals. Seasons 1-2 will have you rolling on the ground laughing. It gets a little serious after that, but its still super entertaining! Kevin Nealon is a crack up and the main character (Mary-Louise Parker) is unbelievably HOT!!!

One note about Taken (which I absolutely love): do not watch it with college age girls about to go abroad for the first time. You very well may ruin their whole semester.

You need to check out "Winter's Bone". Suprised me with how good it was.

You also need to watch the movie "Brick"

Both are very, very good.

Restrepo is a very important film. Absolutely amazing. I also just revisited a classic - Gallipoli - early Mel Gibson, but a great movie.

Also, I just saw Inception. I was very surprised by this movie. Enjoyed it much, much more than I thought I would.

My 2 favorite movies are the assassination of jesse james and the thin red line. If you dont get into character studies i would stay far away from those two movies

Thin Red Line is a great movie. Especially if you are familiar at all with the story of the Battle of Guadalcanal. Also a great cast.

I'm liking all of the documentaries I've been hearing about in this thread. I just watched The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia last night, and it was good. We watched Restrepo Thursday night since she's going to the neighboring province next month.

It looks like I've got the Cove lined up next. I'm all for some more documentaries as well, maybe we can create a thread for documentary recommendations.

The Battle of Algiers- phucking fenomenal film.

Ganges- This is part of the BBC series (Wild China, Life, Planet Earth, etc...) All of them are awesome (especially on Blu-Ray) but Ganges is unique. It's definitely a must-see.

edit: didn't see the whole netflix thing. Not sure if you can get any of these on it.

All -

Some good stuff to watch on Netflix if you get bored:

World's Most Dangerous Gang (awesome)
Inside North Korea (amazing)
Camp Leatherneck (pretty intense)
Inside the Green Berets (amazing)
Talibanistan (Long, but really good)
National Geographic: Aryan Brotherhood (Prison gangs - good stuff)

One of my favorites (first two seasons only)
Everest: Beyond the Limit

Shutter Island was a disappointment. I kinda called it early. So that's a bummer.

Word is Leo and Scorcese are coming out with another movie. Hope they bounce back strong. I agree with you I thought SI would have been better.

I've become a big Leo fan. The Departed, The Beach, Inception, Body of Lies, Blood Diamond, and Gangs of New York are great flicks.

I agree. He is quickly becoming one of the best actors of his generation, and certainly one with the most box office success. I loved Gangs and the Departed especially, and anything Chris Nolan does is magic IMO.

He is a damn great actor but IMO christian bale is much better. The machinist, american psycho, harsh times, the prestige, empire of the sun etc etc. And dont even get me started on the fighter, the man is everything a actor should be. He simply becomes the character he is portraying

I'm on a documentary kick. I concur that people should watch the Cove, and Gasland was incredible.

If you like Bale as an actor you should check out Rescue Dawn.

Ehhhh...Christian Bale spits too much when he talks. Kinda gets on my nerves. Must be that he hasn't mastered fixing his accent. And if you want Bale's best movies, American Psycho (I love Easton Ellis) and 3:10 to Yuma.
