The school was using this as an opportunity to teach the kids that if you study hard and work hard you'll have a chance to have all the top schools in the country beg you to come there.
Davonte and his family set this whole thing up the school allowed it including allowing all those kids to be pulled out of class for this. The 18 year old had a responsibility to those kids who were being told that Davonte was just like them to show up and say at a minimum "This is a tough choice for me I'm sorry for taking time out of your day like this, but I can't decide." Instead of no showing like he did and keeping all those people waiting for an hour.
Perfectly on point. I think people are missing the point of why this upsets some. No one has a problem with Davonte taking his time and making the right decision for him and his family. But when you set up a news conference to act as a role model and show kids what hard work can do, then no show it, what does that say? It wasn't very classy, and he could have handled it a different way. There's something to the effect of showing kids how to act like an upright individual.
I'm not going to criticize his agony over the decision. We've all been in the position to make huge, life-altering decisions and we've all agonized over them. I realize that it doesn't look good because he's waited for so long after NSD to do so. But keep in mind that for him, this is NSD because he started his recruitment so late. So, it's understandable that he has two tough decisions going on, and his family is supposedly arguing it out, but he should have handled the situation with the kids much better. This wasn't simply blowing off a regular news conference or even doing it at his high school.
That being said, I don't think any of us know what's going on, so I digress haha.
