No, it's him after 20 years of mediocrity, of which I can understand his pain....I just don't get people who act like "it's no big deal"

Like everything in this world, it is somewhere in between. For one thing, signing day is a full year away. We have seen kids commit this early before only to take visits in December when they realize they rushed it. It is a big deal because we are fighting an upward battle.

It's not the end of the world but it certainly isn't something to ho hum either. We all need to relax. Its a LONG LONG way until the season starts, let alone signing day of 2013.

Did you fail to see anything last year? Hoke got commits VERY early. Everyone, yes even on here, said it wouldn't last. Guess what ? It did, and they are back with a vengeance. I am so sorry you guys are so diluted in your thought process that you see this as anything but "Grab Your Ankles".

The reason why the stuck around last year was because of their on the field success. This year, they have to play Alabama, @ ND, @ Nebraska, MSU, & @ Ohio State. Last year they were the flavor of the month b/c it was Hoke's first year. This year, that flavor will be OSU b/c of Urban.

Look, you have your thoughts and I have mine. I realize that there is a thin margin of error with Kelly this year. Let's see what happens with the program once Hoke faces a bit of scrutiny. What will happen if they start 2-2 this year? We will see if that happens, but a 2011 ND season is not out of the realm of possibility for UM next year. Can they sustain the momentum if that occurs is yet to be seen.

I made a point in one of the many Michigan-commit threads that I bought into the idea last year that we were in better shape with our quality than they were with their quantity, but it turned out that they played it better than us. I want to see us take a different approach this year, but I think you're overstating the case here. It really doesn't matter when kids commit, just that they do. So Michigan is off to a fast start....they don't give out trophies for that. I'd rather be a little behind with 11 months to go than 11 days to go. Lets see how it unfolds before we talk about grabbing ankles.

Bosch Diary: Talks Michigan Pledge

This morning when I woke up, I had a weird feeling that I should get this over with and commit to Michigan.

I don’t know what else I could look for between the great academics and great coaching staff. I just felt like it was a great fit for me.

What made me commit to Michigan was the overall feel that I got from the coaching staff and just the players that I met. They’re all great people from the G.A.s to the head coach Brady Hoke. They all have very good core values and they also have just a great support staff. The trainers are great. The academic guy gave a 45-minute spiel about how they’re switching to iPads so you don’t have to lug around 30-pounds of books from class to class.

The football trainers are awesome. I talked to a few players on the team and they talked about how great they are. The strength and conditioning coach is very knowledgeable. My strength coach back home says he’s very respected in the industry and at the end of the day that was an important piece of the puzzle, to find a good strength coach.

At the beginning of the day, I started to hint that I was going to commit. I told Coach Borges maybe next month I could see myself commit. Then the director of player personnel Coach Singletary came over to me and I said maybe next week. I then went in the bathroom and talked to my mom on the phone and we talked about it, Michigan State and Stanford. It came down to academics. I have a ton of respect for Michigan State and Stanford. I think they’re both outstanding schools, but it came down to academics. Michigan is the right place for me.

After I got out of the bathroom, we went to the pep rally for the basketball game and they had the ESPN Gameday thing going on. I asked my grandfather about it. He said he was also crazy about Michigan State, but he said it’s your decision. Later on I went in the pressbox and I made a lot of phone calls to friends and family and they were all excited about it. They said it’s your decision and with the options you have you can’t go wrong with any of them. They said if you go to Alaska, we’ll come to see you play.

From there, I called Coach Dantonio at Michigan State and told him what I was going to do. I called Coach Bloomgren at Stanford and thanked them both for their time and said I was very blessed with the opportunity they gave me and I hope they have great success in the future and I know they will.

I think by then Coach Hoke and Coach Hecklinski had an idea what I was going to do. Coach Funk was with them when I came out. They were all waiting for me and I broke the news to Coach Hoke. He was excited as hell and everyone was happy.

My whole family is very excited, very happy and very proud. My grandfather is very happy and proud of me. I was really happy he got to be a part of it. I was happy he got to come up from Arizona and is warm paradise and share in the experience. My school has a big Michigan following. My friends have been texting me. Some of them are coming over when I get home and all the parents are having champaign.

I can’t you how excited I am that I’m a Wolverine. It’s going to be a fantastic experience being a Michigan Man at the University of Michigan

How do you know Kelly wanted him?

There are lots of kids that they just never offer; and that is for a reason.

I agree. The staff just didn't make Bosch a priority, and Bosch noticed. I'm not sure why they aren't sold on him, but I have to assume that they have their reasons. I can't believe they would just drop the ball on a prospect in our own backyard. I guess with the staff upheaval this offseason it's at least possible, though.

Some of the staff's opinions on certain players have been puzzling. (ie Schutt, Heggie, Bosch), but after watching "Moneyball" last night, I am going to quit trying to think too much about what Kelly's thought process is. We all know the "Big Skill" philosophies, but I am guessing that there is a lot more than that going into his player evaluations.

Or... we just couldn't afford to outfit Bosch an Ipad for his Kinesiology class.

You are right on it. The only player they took a flier on was Perkins, and they monitered him pretty closely. They were kind enough to cut him lose early enough in the process.

We cannot judge where a players head is, how hard they will work, how hard they will study, whether they will say no to a beer . . .

I can tell you that Kelly knows the answers before he accepts a letter.

Transferring out of Michigan.

I (and others) wondered why we dragged our feet on an offer and slow played after we did extend an "offer"... maybe that Hiestand guy knows a thing or two...

If he's dead weight, I'd rather have him stay and take up a scholarship.

might be more to the story here.

with a new coach you'd think he would stick around and give him a shot.

There is. Apparently he was already set on transfering out because of personal issues.

Snap... Harbaugh pullin' the "Michigan Man" move.

That's cold.

“I was at school all day, getting ready,” Bosch told Sporting News on Tuesday morning. “Then I met with Coach Harbaugh and I didn’t expect the transfer. That was not my original intent when I went up there yesterday. … This was very untimely. If it was my intention to transfer, I would have done that a long time ago.”

Bosch said his meeting with Harbaugh produced two options: stay with the program with stipulations (he did not say what they were) or transfer.

“They were shocked and a lot of people were disappointed that I was leaving,” Bosch said of informing his teammates of the news. “I love all of them very, very much. I saw a lot of my teammates for the first time since I left in September. There were a lot of hugs and tears and it was a shock to everyone.”

Everyone makes mistakes, Kyle. Though some are tougher to correct than others:

The tiniest ounce of respect for him I had as a good coach is all gone. What a fucking sleaze.

I seriously wish nothing good ever happens to that God-forsaken institution.

what kind of stipulations? Is Bosch a trouble causing type?

My guess:

1. lose your scholarship, but still be on the team.
2. lose your scholarship if we can field enough recruits in this cycle
3. lose your scholarship by next recruiting cycle

Most likely no. 1.

wow. I understand freeing up some scholarships when you are about to land a monster class or have a well established program. But seems like they should be happy with the bodies they have and build from there.

Those steely eyes and my way or the highway attitude of Jim Harbaugh have already raised it's ugly head.

Stipulation #1 - juice

stipulation #2 - um, like, "personal reasons" is teenage girl talk for having my period. Untuck it and get back on campus now

Kind of stupid because their recruiting class is not exactly bursting at the seams and he is a top notch prospect with three years of eligibility. Harbaugh completely strikes me as my way or the highway type of guy so I would guess excuses fall on deaf ears.
