This is great point especially if you meant Don Bosco, lol J/K. From what I understand ND has always recruited NJ fairly well. Can anyone with more knowledge speak to this?? Thanks and MERRY XMAS!!!

Note....the Rocket, despite not playing his HS ball there, was born in the Garden State.

Charlie had NJ roots that he used pretty well in his time as coach. Can't remember if the guys were from Don Bosco or not though.

FYI 247 now officially lists us as the favorite for his services on his profile. Hopefully he doesn't take any more visits and hops onboard in short order.

Yup - think Shumate and his father really enjoyed themselves, and ND sold his father on the academics.

Yuri & Elijah are NOT a package deal; however, they are in favor of playing together if the opportunity presents itself.

I think it's a two-team race for Yuri - ND & Michigan.

Here's a post from the SC Board on 247:

Following the visit, Shumate has communicated to people close to him and to several coaches recruiting him from other programs that he feels Notre Dame currently is the best fit for him. We are also told that at least one influential family member is firmly in Notre Dame’s corner and would prefer to see Shumate head to South Bend.

Here's a post from the SC Board on 247:

My favorite comment after the post was this:

In what curriculum does Shumate plan to major? I trust that the coaches have relayed to him USC has some of the nation's best programs?

Also found this other comment from another post regarding Shumate:

These days Notre Dame will make more moves on non-football Saturdays where they can tread on their historical reputation - they are not what they used to be and it is more obvious on a game day.
Sorry to hear that about Shumate - ND is a decent school academically - no Vanderbilt/Northwestern or Purdue. I think some of our fans underestimate that our school particularly in business/international business competes very favorably with most schools.

We need to get some more commits in the Army AA game (I believe right now we only have JJ?). The SC recruits are planning on "working" Shumate when they get down there.

Yeah, funny enough to punch a bitch. Not that I would.. anymore.

If we have one of his family member's on ND's side, and they know what's the real deal, then I have no worries. I am really excited about the prospect of him signing that LOI to ND.

Family member = father

Father said it was a "no-brainer" to go to ND.

South Carloina actually does have some solid programs, the problem is that like any large state school it is very easy to get lost in the wash and the vast majority of people that go there do not come out with a good indication. At least that was the impression my family and I came away with when my little bro visited. South Carolina people LOVE to tout their "#1" international business program. They also have a huge chip on their shoulder academically when it comes to Clemson... which leads them to go all Lane Kiffin and start claiming to be "the best" in everything. It's very odd.

SC actually does have a really good international business program as stated above but it is more of a graduate degree thing so if a recruit likes international business they should do what my dad did, go to ND undergrad and then SC if football doesn't pan out for them at ND.
