We can be them if someone not named Floyd and Eifert steps up. This is first year in like 3 years where are not gonna start next the year with one of the best reciever's in college football and it kinda scares me. If someone wants to be the star when Floyd leaves this would be a great way to show who wants to be the man.

I think that one of the young guys step up next year. I am not sold at all on Jones and riddick being a number one receiver.

This is going to be a good if not great game. I believe that ND comes out swinging and that Stanford is shocked as to what the Irish bring. The Irish should know what to do and how to do it against Luck and company, however, if the Irish come out flat, well you know what will happen.

Again, I think that this will be one for the ages, as the Seniors take this last game at home and turn it into some smash mouth football. Swagger, confidence, and support from the fans will prove sucsessful for the ND football.

GO IRISH!

well, they just played their last game at home and won, but will play much better with less distractions on the road in Palo Alto.

That post from II should be posted on every ND fans wall that complains about every little issue that ND has. That is a GREAT post.

Program Defining Game, Take 3.

What cracks me up is people in The Observer and elsewhere writing this off as a sure loss for ND and a potential blowout. If ND hadn't gifted a game in the waning seconds to Michigan or had no identity/incredible mental lapses for the first half against USF, what would people be saying? It's silly to deal in hypotheticals but I think people put wayyyyyy too much emphasis on how "awesome" Stanford is without considering the big picture and that ND is a couple bounces away from being a 1 loss team and Stanford is a couple bounces away from being a 2 loss team. On paper, we're really not much more than a small step behind the Cardinal.

The big picture is also that ND is a ~7 point underdog which equates to having ~30% chance of winning the game (historically). That's pretty solid odds. Are we the favorite? No, and we shouldn't be. But I keep seeing people (Mike Frank is an example for those who read ISD) say things to the effect of "I don't see how ND can win this game." If Iowa-freaking-State can beat the #2 team in the country than we can sure as hell march into completely non-hostile Palo Alto and beat a good Stanford squad. We don't need some masterful surprise gameplan or a miracle to get the W... we just need to make a couple plays. Maybe a GAIII KR for a TD. Maybe we bring some pressure and get to Luck. Maybe the game just turns into a shootout and our defense comes up with one more stop than theirs.

We'll know soon enough how it all plays out... in the meantime we're 8-3 with a chance to hit 9 wins and a chance to exceed expectations for the season.

Aside from the QBs and the physical nature of their running game, the Irish match up well against Stanford.

Let's not forget that it was Owen Marecic not Andrew Luck (2 Ints- had thrown a total of 0 coming into the game) who killed us last year.

This is a very winnable game.

We'll definitely miss Jonas, but I'm a little excited to see what GAIII can do with some touches. He has proven he can be electric in the return game, and the O-line has proven they can get these backs into space where they can make big plays. I think he has the potential to make a nice impact on this game with a big play.

the thing i like is George Atk....the guy has made 2 huge plays for us that changed momentum for us this year in BIG games!!! he isn't in shock when he plays...doesn't look like a freshman...and i am hoping for a couple of touches out of the backfield and see some daylight!!!

Big game to say the least, right? Would have been juicier had they been undefeated, but what can you do?

Attack them with speed. Stop the run and cover those big *** TEs. Guys in the box have to play very, very well.

Realistically, this game probably won't have much a different score and outcome from last year...but I'm a better dreamer than a realist!

The Irish roll! 35-27 stopping a late drive to tie the game by Luck and Stanford!

Trying to pump some energy back into this sorry crowd that calls themselves Irish fans.

Its the loss to USF, the loss to Michigan, the close calls against Pitt, BC, Wake. While Stanford has drubbed everyone, beat a USC team that bent us over in our own house, lost to Oregon which is a top10 team. I just don't see a victory here, going in to their house.

ND maybe 2 bounces away from being a 1 loss team, but regardless of if we are not the proof tends to lean into the NOT category. We beat the teams we are supposed to beat, except USF and UM. We should have destroyed Pitt, Wake and BC. We are just not on the same level as a Stanford, Oregon, LSU etc. If you can't see that then I there is nothing else I can use to prove it.

While it's true we're not on the same level as those teams right now, I don't think it should be assumed that Stanford is going to blow us out.

ND has dealt with a bunch of nagging injuries, youth (albeit talented youth) in vital positions, horrible field position and mediocre/one-dimensional QB play all season long and is still 8-3. This season could easily be 5-6 right now but BK has the team mentality moving towards a winning one.

If they can get healthy this week they can beat Stanford.

Great point on the flu. Sounds like half the campus is sick. I saw Atkins missed a game last week and Mizzou score indicates we were lethargic. Saw Floyd was taking IV fluids mid week last week before practice. Also saw something that we were sterilizing the facilities. College campuses are one big petri dish.

I'm flattered, but pissed because complimenting your opponent is one of the best ways of getting in their head.

Yea, I ended up editing that post ha.. But seriously, BK was saying how half the line was playing sick and a number of other guys, like you said, were taking fluids and not 100%.

They are sterilizing everything in South Bend right now! A flu epidemic on any sports team can be devastating. Let's hope they get to cali feeling strong.

Yea I thought the same thing. Don't give your opponent any bulletin board material.. Luck is a great, smart player and I will be psyched to watch our boys take him on.

Might want to watch last week's highlight reels before marking us up for dead. 4 of the Top 10 teams lost, many to unranked opponents.

I see a money line of 240/280, doesn't that imply a 45% chance of winning? Stanford as 7 point favorites at home is much closer than I expected. Far from the fart-in-a-windstorm expressed by phork.

Money line just means that for every 100 dollars you bet, you make that amount. So say you bet 100 on ND, you would make 240 and get 340 back.

So a 30% chance of winning is implied? Makes more sense, I thought 7 points was more like 60% favord but 70% sounds reasonable to that as well.

I'll still take a 1 in 3 shot vs a top 10 team in their house.

Thanks!
