hmm...I thought he only said that the night he decommitted? He has said it more recently still?

I guess in all honesty no one knows what happened, except that it was a "mutual" agreement.

Well yea, I'm not sure if he continues to say it, but I continue to see it. lol

And I had heard the mutual thing, but does that suggest that the coaches were telling him not to take visits in hope that he would decommit so he could take visits?

Read through the previous pages bro.

Just to introduce another angle though, it's possible with some guys (i.e. Darby, Tee, Deontay) that said before they committed they were going to take all 5 OVs the staff might have been like "sure, that's cool we understand." With Perkins, because we have a number other OLB targets and such, they could've given him a different set of rules. Like "if you commit, we want you 100% committed not looking anywhere else... and if you want to take visits we're going to be looking at other guys." I mean who really knows? But that's plausible and it's similar to what we told Justice Hayes (i.e. we told him we were still going to be recruiting other talented RBs like Savon Huggins and he was "OK" with that... until he got ignored on a visit).

More likely than not though, which is what I think you're alluding to, he probably doesn't have his grades where they need to be after Q1 of school and is looking at other options... and if his grades magically come up by semester than maybe ND is an option again.. if we have a spot open and he hasn't committed somewhere else. Remember, his offer at first was delayed by waiting for his test scores to come in, so there is more than a little smoke between that and the rivals report that the classroom played a factor here. But it's still all conjecture.

By "they got a QB" I am assuming he is talking about former 5 star Garrett Gilbert who is supposedly transfering from UT.

Isn't SMU one of the places Gehrig has an offer? Hmmm.

according to an article i read on espn....his dad stated that smu is a perfect fit for him and they allude to him committing soon to them

I am actually rooting for SMU to make it back to big-time football, but how could a kid choose SMU over ND for anything? Leads me to believe that his "decommitment" was less his decision than he wants people to think.

C'mon guys. It looks arrogant to conclude that something is amiss with a recruit if he would rather play at a different school than high and mighty Notre Dame, who is 5-3. SMU is a decent academic school, and is located in Dallas for crying out loud.

Interesting...Plus SMU will be joining the Big East. June Jones can coach.

This is an understatement. June Jones is one of the best coaches in the country. They are starting to put together some decent recruiting classes.

SMU's Expected 30y ROI for black players is $673,680, which would put them in the top 20 (Notre Dame's is $1,623,900). All things considered, that's much higher than I expected it to be.

Regardless, I wish him well.

Per BGI wasn't given the option to take visits like the others.

Maybe it is because the lack of LBs committed.

Is Elite 11 really that prestigious though considering Gunner didn't make the cut, but Purdue's Appleby did?

I find it odd that a kid can do more for himself with the recruitniks in a non-contact 7-on-7 game, versus looking at the tape from their entire high school football career.

This is why sometimes I just shake my head at recruiting experts.

exactly....no rush, receivers don't have to worry about getting hit so they are more likely to make a catch and on top of that...don't have pads, helmet

All this feels to me like a guy who wants to play offense, but Notre Dame [correctly] sees his big potential on defense. David Perkins seems to me to be a superior in-space defender with a slobberknocker attitude towards football, but not an elite running back nor wide receiver [good just because he's such a good athlete, but elite, no]. This strikes me as a real shame that he won't be here to develop that great potential, but somewhere else either misfitting his position or being double-crossed into shifting over to D where he should have been. As to SMU and June Jones, there is no question that Jones can coach offense. Defense? I don't think so.

That was what I thought as well. I wonder if he ultimately ends up playing defense, anyway, regardless of where he goes. Maybe he wants to be a two-way player, and SMU will offer that opportunity.
