I could be wrong but the Gameday location is always the prime time game on ABC. I simply do not see Gameday coming to South Bend, talking up a game only to have NBC have coverage.
I see an ND game being a 'gameday' game but it would be one of the 3 away games. Just my opinion.
The reason is Herbie does Gameday during the day and then does the broadcast at night. Since it would be an NBC game, Herbie would have to be in South Bend in the AM and then head to the primetime game location. Currently, the Utah weekend shows
No. 18 Penn State at No. 2 Ohio State
No. 24 South Carolina at No. 8 Florida
No. 12 Miami (FL) at No. 15 Georgia Tech
No. 22 Georgia at No. 21 Auburn
Unless gameday is South Bend and Herbie calls Penn State v. Ohio State...I do not see it.
Consider next week the two prime time ABC games are
No. 5 Texas at Texas Tech
Notre Dame at Michigan State
Now I know Texas is Texas but an all Texas game against Texas Tech does not have much national appeal. On the flip side, ESPN is only going to have 3 chances to show an ND game.
Boston College week has the following match ups
No. 1 Alabama at No. 24 South Carolina
No. 19 LSU at No. 8 Florida
No. 17 Florida State at No. 12 Miami (FL)
I think BC week, ESPN in going to be in Coral Gables.
Next is USC week:
No. 19 LSU at No. 14 Arkansas
No. 8 Florida at No. 17 Florida State
No. 15 Georgia Tech at No. 22 Georgia
I think USC week, ESPN is between the hedges.
So long story short, if ND and MSU win this week, I think ESPN will be in East Lansing showing highlights of the recent close games all morning long and that is the only time ND is going to be a gameday game.
