Didn't play at all tonight, coach said he was hurting practice earlier in the week. Hmmm. Then there is this:

“@BryanDFischer: Columbus East wins 49-21. Gunner Kiel very tight-lipped about his decommitment afterward. Will be in South Bend & does have interest in ND.”

I was kind of neutral about Kiel up to now since we had 4 on scholarship all of which could play.

Now, I'm thinking duuuh, how do you not take a QB of this caliber? I love the guys we have but Kelly is here to win games which means best man in.

I feel the same way. Go Irish!

I find it laughable that some would go nuts to get Kiel. No disrespect to any QB on the ND roster but none of them are anywhere near as talented as he is.

I just never got this ND got great QB depth argument that was supposedly scaring off talent because I don't see it in the slightest.

I like Rees but he's nothing more than an average QB with not much upside, He will get better and cut down on mistakes which will improve his play but beyond that his game is quite limited because he doesn't physically have the tools to make certain throws.

Do you realize those same guys that you will agree with when they say how good the RB's or TE's of Floyd or Te'o are the same people that will rate 50 other QB's ahead of Tommy Rees.

Andrew Hendrix is very talented and athletic but because of the system he ran in HS didn't prepare him at all for college but the tools are there and in time and with opportunity he could be a pretty good QB but I'm not sure that he would be considered one of the better QB's in college.

Golson is exciting and could do decent but I think the hype on him is because he's exciting more so than what his actual potential. He's athletic and has a strong arm but he's tiny which bothers some not me but what does is his extremely poor vision and I've seen many potentially great QB's and RB's go no where because of there lack of vision.

Kiel is so much more talented than anyone on the ND roster at QB and not wanting him is outright mad.

Gunner Kiel is Andrew Luck. Luck unlike many others is closer to his potential ceiling. What I'm saying is Kiel's base talent and style of play are the same as Luck's entering college now it's up to him and his coach to develop that great potential and if he becomes more than just great tools and starts to master them then he's going to be like Andrew Luck.

So all in all is I'm saying that he's very, very good actually great but that's nothing more than his base talent and that is better than anyone ND currently has as is his upside.

Oh boy.. this ones gonna get people going....

Your statements and predictions about the QBs currently on NDs roster are downright ridiculous.

I want Kiel too, though.

+1 Couldn't agree more. Rees is what he is...a game manager, and he's damn good at it. Hendrix is a major project with upside within certain situations. Now, for anyone to forcast/downgrade what Golston is/will become is outright stupid. You haven't seen him yet for crying out loud. (not at you wwmn....just a general feeling i'm picking up in this thread from some.)

That said, I'd welcome Gunner with open arms... Good competition breeds success and with that, comes wins. Stay the course, Gents. Good times are a'comin'.

I think Rees is more than a game manager. He's already led us on game-winning drives(and a would-be one against Michigan) very early on in his career. The offense is limited to an extent because he's not a threat to stretch the field, but even despite that, we've been one of the better offenses in the country. He's had a knack for making the big play at the right time.

That said, Kiel's on a different level than every quarterback on our roster. You take him no questions asked.

When the #1 QB in the nation wants to come to your school, you take him. Case closed. Arguments about whether or not we really need him are silly.

It's possible that Kiel didn't like the look of our depth chart when ND was seriously courting him preseason, but look at it now from his perspective: Crist is finished, Rees doesn't have the physical tools to hold him off, Hendrix is a project, and Golson is a complete mystery. If I'm Kiel, that depth chart looks much more inviting now than it did two months ago.

And for the record, I think the younger QBs (even Kiel, if he comes) will have a helluva time winning the starting job from Rees. But I seriously doubt Kiel sees it that way.

Two things were you're completely getting ahead of yourself and then falling on your face:

  • Your apparent dislike of Golson because of his vision. We've only seen the kid play some in the spring game.
  • Comparing Kiel to Andrew Luck. That's some pretty lofty expectations. I think Kiel is damn good, but there is no way you can say he is going to play on a Luck level.

Kiels decision on whether or not to commit to Notre Dame, possibly hinges on the same thing preoccupying many of us this week.....what is the uniform surprise?

I honestly didn't intend to derail this thread. Does anyone know where he is leaning? And it might have been said earlier, but is his visit an unofficial?

There's something about the wording of this that just seems so familiar......... Why do I feel the need to put out some corn?

Go argue Notre Dame is irrelevant, but Gunner Kiel is trending nationally on twitter. It's not bc of IU football fans

Wonder if he can take a snap from center without fumbling? Also, if he did fumble, would he be able to fall on it?

Maybe Kelly can convince him we need him. After tonight, he has to feel he has a shot at getting on the field.

I think Golson can be a stud, but I still think we need Kiel now.

Dayne looked like a deer in the headlights when he first went in. I feel like he's not even sure of his own capabilities.
