That’s why you’re England. Great idea trying to defend for 40 minutes. They deserved to lose.
They need to stop this coming home bullshit,… they invented soccer like I invented the microwave. They’re rightfully cursed for inventing a story

Both goals came off excellent passes from Messi. The first drew a man to him and was perfect for a simple touch that led to a goal. The cross on the second goal was mastery. The height of the ball, the spin and the trajectory put it right between the two English defenders and dropped it right onto his teammate's head.

The guy is simply the best we've ever seen when you combine talent, success and longevity. The guy is 39 and he's still unbelievably dangerous at the highest level in the world.

Was cheering for England, but credit where it's due. Messi and his Argentina squad were the better team most of the afternoon and refused to die in the critical moments.

Imagine blaming the coach for the guys failing
Imagine not blaming the coach after witnessing that game. Up 1-0 and you decide to park the bus for 40 minutes and just give the GREATEST PLAYER OF ALL TIME, a man who has made a 20 year career at picking apart low blocks, the ball for almost half the game basically uninterrupted, completely foregoing even the idea of offense, and just hoping nothing bad could possibly happen. It's like Tuechel watched James Franklin coach at PSU and decided to implement his brilliant end of game strategies into soccer. This was the equivalent of getting up a score at the beginning of the 4th quarter and spamming HB dive 3x and punting to "play the field position game."

Gutless. England's bench is probably more talented than Argentina's starting 11 (other than Messi of course) and you decide to play haramball for 40 minutes like you're Paraguay? Deserved loss for the coach. I feel bad for Kane, Bellingham, Gordon, and Pickford.

As a ND and a Vikings fan, I understand England so well. I've seen this so many times.

That's actually the point of the song though. The point of the song is that England is a cursed program that can never get over the hump, but they also never lose hope. It's not actually a song about how great they are and how much they deserve to win.

I've gathered it's a bit of self-parody, but that level of nuance doesn't necessarily translate.

Anyway, I feel for the players, who were great. The coach will be lucky to get a plane ticket back to England, and their wanker fans can sit and mope another four years.

The song is tongue in cheek. It goes over people's heads. Like fucking Born in the USA every Fourth of July.

Once Tuchel dropped five to the back, there was space galore for Messi to operate in. Tuchel packed it in way too early. You go up 1-0 and then have 12% possession the rest of the game, expect to lose 2-1. Argentina or anyone else. It was dumb. Not sure what to make of Tuchel. He's managed at PSG, Chelsea and Bayern Munich at the club level. Crashed out of all three jobs. Now he has one of the most scrutinized international jobs there is. Alexei Lalas managed to make a very good point: after some matches, you chalk it up to the other team just being the better team. Lalas said it will be hard for England to say that to themselves after yesterday. He questioned a lot of Tuchel's decisions, and rightly so.

Argentina is good. Messi is good. They play like a bunch of shithousing bastards. Multiple things being true at once. You would imagine that if Spain can get the upper hand, they won't take their foot off of the gas. At this point, I don't see how you bet against Argentina.

I don't follow soccer that closely. Pretty much just a WC fan. Can someone explain the hate for Argentina? Personally, we love watching Messi play in our household. My son is a huge fan of his. We've been pumped watching Argentina win these matches.

I love watching Messi. There is no athlete in any sport better than him from my view. Argentina as a whole, however, will be the team that plays extremely dirty and act shocked when a foul is called. Meanwhile if one of them get fouled, they surround the ref and start screaming at him. It's incredibly annoying and hard to cheer on.

In addition I live in a Mexican household and the hate for the Argentines is intense.. They call them rasict, arrogant and thinking they are above the rest of the latino nations. Me, I love to cheer for Messi, and it also irritates my wife which is an excellent by-product..

I was cheering for England, but boy they bottled it.

They aren't considered Latino by other Latinos. Argentinians like to see themselves as more European and thus arrogant. Even small things like the type of outlets they use in their homes, are of European standard rather than the same as the rest of south america.

They aren't a Latino nation. They are a white nation. 85% white.

Uruguay is also a white nation. 88% white.

Things I learned while watching the world cup. Along with the existence of Cape Verde.

For me, it goes back to 2022 against the Netherlands. I wanted Messi to win a World Cup up until that point. The constant shithousing and lack of sportsmanship makes them incredibly difficult to like. Their fans are also insufferable.

What Enzo Fernandez did to Elliot Anderson, five minutes into the match, was trash. They take the dark arts to a level and there are typically minimal to zero consequences. That first half was complete shit to watch yesterday because they fouled relentlessly and stepped on every foot and leg they could find.

Whether they receive favoritism from the referees or not is up for debate, but they have yet to have a VAR intervention go against them. That is what it is. Make of that whatever.
