Former players and assistant coaches for Saban speak of him as if he were a god, there's obviously a lot of love for him.

Former players and assistant coaches for BK don't really talk about him I've noticed.

I am curious about the "real world" implications of this "duty to mitigate" clause that is in coaches contracts that requires them to seek another coaching job or a job in media.

If BK (through his agent) simply lets it be known that he really doesn't have any interest in coaching again, but would agree to do an interview if a school would like to talk. I'm assuming that would still allow BK to get his money.

If a school actually does ask for an interview and BK is just brutally honest and says "Listen, my heart really isn't in coaching anymore. If you hire me, I will likely put in the most minimal effort possible relying on my assistants to do all the work. If you are OK with that, then I guess you can hire me if you want".

I would think that it would be pretty hard for LSU to get out of the buyout even if BK has a "duty to mitigate".
Good question. Seems that if they fire you, they couldn't enforce that as opposed to him leaving on his own accord. Just that they would only owe the difference of they took another job.

If I were guessing, the negotiation around the buyout amount likely revolves around the concept of a lump sum.

If there is no negotiated settlement to the contrary, BK's contract calls for monthly payments over the remaining term of his contract. BK and LSU may both want to negotiate a smaller overall buyout amount that would come with a lump sum payment instead of the monthly payments.
So what you're saying is, that he hit the lottery!

Sounds like they are kinda "poor"

With the amount of cheese that gets consumed, you'd think there's some cheese head up there that can contribute.

Alex Atkins, LSU TE coach, taking over as play caller.

You may remember Atkins as FSU OC when they went 2-10 in 2024.

At some point, cash flow will be impacted. Yes, you will always have donors. But you cant continuously pay this out, pay the players, invest in infrastructure, etc. This is why the private equity players are going to ultimately win. The athletic departments are not run well financially.

400 rounds and your average score is 95? Mediocre on and off the course.

And I thought @Jimmy3Putt was bad....
Average of 95 and that doesn't include lost balls in the woods, using the foot wedge to nestle the ball on a nice tuft of grass, and throwing the ball out of the sand trap with a nice underhand toss.

How lovely would it be for Brian Kelly to stay in the top 10 highest paid Louisiana public employees for six more years - just grating the ass of LSU fans. Weis on ND payroll was bad enough as a private institution.

What is the purpose of a buy out close and how does it benefit the school? How did that clause ever makes its way into any coaches contract? Seems like a terrible idea from the start.
