Expectations are completely out of whack.
Especially now with Private Capital getting in the mix. It is now a ~diversifying asset class~ and the shittification has begun.
I think even less due diligence is going to be done than ever before, too. Everyone is going to throw money at big names or whoever the flavor of the month is. There are going to be some bad marriages we'll get to see, and if there is one that should be the cautionary tale, it's Brian Kelly with LSU. Nothing about it seemed like a good fit from the get go.

Most of these guys are already the highest paid state employee wherever they are by a long shot. This is only going to get significantly worse when you are reading articles suggesting PSU and UF throw $15M a year at a football coach. Something about this landscape at the present time feels very wrong. More than ever before.

If MF and ND make it through this off-season of big job openings, it really may be just the NFL that takes him away.

I know it came close in 2016, but has this Ahole ever been fired before?
That’s what makes me most happy. I’ve read and heard that Woodward (AD) told him to fire Sloan (OC). He wouldn’t … it get heated and Woodward said “fuck it, you’re fired.” They called in the team to football ops and Kelly addressed the team for approximately 5 minutes and hit it out of there.

In terms of CFB, think Freeman would only leave for Ohio State.
I always thought that too, but this year has 3 big time jobs creating a bidding war. LSU is a very enticing job, so much so it wouldn't be crazy if you guys don't have a real shot at landing Saban.

again, from whats reported, his wife wants nothing to do with OSU and their fanbase so i dont see that happening. They'd want Vrabel ahead of Freeman too IMO
I’ve read that too (hell, I believe I even posted that about a year ago), but realistically, are Ohio State fans drastically different than any big time program?

See... how you can fire BK (and Jimbo) without firing Woodward. He has to be considered the worst in the biz at this point...no??

The game has drastically changed with NIL
and the transfer portal — I think you’d need to get creative in hiring.

Pate acting like he’s revealing groundbreaking info. This is EXACTLY the same guy who was at ND. The one who barely knew his players, didn’t develop relationships with coaches, and couldn’t be bothered to recruit. Shame on LSU for not doing their due diligence on him. Their mistake was the best thing that could’ve happened to us! Pay up, LSU!

Classic Pate to run the I was right, inside info angle after he’s already been fired

Man, that's actually a terrific spot for him...

Also think Wisconsin will be interested the second they fire Fickell.
Only thing about Wisconsin, their programs identity is to pound you in the mouth with a strong run game. And running the ball ain’t Kelly’s forte.

Also, I’m starting to think Fickell might get some more year. I’m not to sure they want to compete with all of these openings.

Sconny low-key kinda poor. There's a reason Paul Chryst fell off at the end and part of it was they were in the bottom 3 of spending in the Big Ten and allowed their entire scouting/recruiting department to get poached by Sparty.

See I would be in the other side and say NO. They've won a ton over the years so they can be a little cocky sure, and winning creates some obnoxious bandwagon fans. But for the most part, SEC fans have always been worse in my opinion. OSU has earned some of that hate, if we could snap our fingers and trade places with OSUs program and success over the last 20 years...unless you're slow, we all would.

I want Nick Saban to coach my local high school team. Vrabel aint going to OSU when hes got a good NFL gig. Bro jumped to NFL coaching ASAP, and has a super young franchise QB.

My buddy's wife does fundraising for the UW-system (all the public 4 years in Wisconsin are under same umbrella).

Sounds like they are kinda "poor" - either the money isnt there or the culture at the school is that they arent willing to play that game. Oh and a lot of money that would normally go to flagship UW ends up in some D3 arms race because all the baby UW's (eight or nine of them?) Have their own conference.

If I were guessing, the negotiation around the buyout amount likely revolves around the concept of a lump sum.

If there is no negotiated settlement to the contrary, BK's contract calls for monthly payments over the remaining term of his contract. BK and LSU may both want to negotiate a smaller overall buyout amount that would come with a lump sum payment instead of the monthly payments.

this. they are indeed a totally different breed to your average CFB fan. Herbie the biggest OSU homer on TV had to move his family out of the state for christs sake
I mean Ryan Day looked like he was on the verge of a mental collapse last season and he has the highest active win percentage in CFB.

I mean prior to LSU, that's exactly what Kelly's ND teams were known for.

Yeah Vrabel is OSU's Gruden.

There is no way in hell he's leaving NE for the Buckeyes. All things to even begin considering the move - Vrabel's preference, money, resources, quality of life - leans (often times heavily) in the Patriots' favor.

I mean there were rumors Belichick's salary towards the end of his Pats' tenure was $25 million annually. No way OSU can come anywhere close to that.
