Nothing helps recruiting and roster maintenance like an interim head coach. Go get em Tree!
if they can make it through the season with enough players that will be a miracle. I could easily seem them forfeiting games towards the end. Either way this could be a historically miserable season, maybe worst of all time in P4.

The fire was red [or Cardinal]
It flaming spread
The trees like torches blazed with light.

This whole situation makes me so happy. The only better solution for Stanford would be bringing back Shaw.

Andrew Luck (Stanford’s GM) was Reich’s QB in Indy before he retired. Makes sense.
Yep. And hiring a head coach and staff from elsewhere at this point in the cycle would be pretty hard. Reich bring a brand name and buys them time to get the permanent hire right. Seems like a reasonably smart move, TBH.

Their recruiting class is going to be just awful in 2026 and likely 2027, but maybe they retain more of the existing roster now.

“I didn’t want to leave UCF,” Frost told The Athletic. “I always said I would never leave unless it was some place you could go and potentially win a national championship. I got tugged in a direction to go try to help my alma mater, and I didn’t really want to do it. It wasn’t a good move. I’m lucky to get back to a place where I was a lot happier.”

Wow.

Trying to save face at his new/old job while burning his alma mater at the stake. Don't see that everyday lol

There is some wild stuff in the Reddit thread about his time at Nebraska. The summary of their statements is he treated it like a continuation of his college years. It didn't work out great, and almost ended in disaster when he couldn't meet their best QB recruit in forever, Dylan Raiola, because he was too drunk at the golf simulator lol.

This is certainly a completely different narrative that I've never seen before. Not that anyone is going to take his advice. These guys will always go for the big money at the big school.

Billy Napier and Mike Gundy prompting early season bumps
Yeah, I don't think Napier avoids the ol' midseason Vaudeville hook this time.

I think USF is showing they're better than most expected, but I also don't think they're THAT good. Meanwhile let's see what's on the docket for the ol' Gators.

@ #3 LSU
@ #5 Miami
vs. #7 Texas
@ #19 Texas A&M
vs. Mississippi State (who's currently handing defending Big XII champ Arizona State their flaming asses)
vs. #4 Georgia (neutral)
@ Kentucky
@ #20 Ole Miss
vs. #22 Tennessee
vs. #14 Florida State

I mean, JFC, they play EIGHT TEAMS currently ranked, including 4 that are in the top 7.

Hopefully the Gators DL player can avoid spitting in the face of an opponent for the rest of the schedule…….

Im sorry, but that's Bush league bullshit. Dumbass should have to miss games for that, and pay back NIL money, just like the pros do when they get fined. Spitting on your opponent is about as big of bitch move that one can pull

Is Chris Ash still gainfully employed? If so, he shouldn't be.

You know, Pry ran some pretty good defenses at Penn State...
That’s what gets me. If MF wasn’t going to elevate Mickens after Golden left, why not hire a coach who is currently coaching at a P4 school? Ash hasn’t been a good college DC since 2014 & I’m beginning to think it was more about the talent he had and they won in spite of him. Don’t forget OSU’s lone loss was to a 6-6 VT team at home who put 35 pts on Ash’s defense.

I get the fact that it was late January, but how many times have we seen any coach but esp. Assistant coaches make a move to an even better coaching opportunity in late January or early February, even though the ink has barely dried on signing the contract w/ current school? (I guess also depends to what extent there are buyout terms in the contract.) Point being, he could have tried harder to get the right DC in place, even if it was late January.

Lane Kiffin and Jedd Fisch are the names connected to Florida in the event they fire Napier.

The obvious Urban Meyer and Jon Gruden clickbait is out there as well.

Kiffin was desired in Florida when Napier was hired but he had a personal grudge against UF because his, then ex-wife Layla is an alum, but they've reconciled so maybe he would be interested. He's sort of run his course in Oxford and taken them about as far as he probably could.

I think Alex Golesh gets a long look if USF makes the playoff.

Big if, but I do think SEC teams will come calling if they finish 11-1 and qualify.
