Burton can play on any big name team in the country if he entered the portal and I don't think he would enter the portal because of NIL issues; I think ND would take care of that.

He had too much put on his shoulders as a freshman, I don't think anyone stepped up this season to be the #2 guy, and the injury bug hasn't helped overall.

The incoming transfers have been spotty this season and I know they have to, but I like that Mohammed and Certa have been given more of an opportunity to play.

I can see ND losing some kids to the portal, but if ND didn't have the talented incoming class coming in like they do I could see Burton testing the transfer portal.

It is not a guarantee, but talented help is on the way.
Burton already tested the NBA waters last year before deciding to return. I hope he stays, but I'm sure he'll look into it again and see if his draft stock improved at all with his better shooting %. Not sure if he will ever be that highly regarded as an NBA prospect at his size, but we'll see.

Maybe he stays to see how it works out with the talent coming in, maybe he transfers to see if a "bigger" program can boost his stock? Idk. Tough to predict.

Another terribly competitive game. Nice 3 pointer from Allocco and put back by Roper for a 5-0 run.

IMO, bad call on that foul. You can’t call that in that situation.
A wins a win.
Respectfully, I'm not sure I agree.

Rebounder can quickly become a shooter. He was going for the put back and the guy had his arm/elbow. Maybe a bit ticky-tack foul, but it affected his put back attempt. Certainly didn't warrant the announcers acting like it was the crime of the century or the Pitt players being poor sports. It was a hard faught game.

No way was that a foul. If that happened to ND we would be saying we got screwed.

From that angle, yeah it's not a good call. I thought the overhead look gave made it look like more contact, but I could be mistaken.

Eh ... I can see where a foul can be called there, depending upon whether I had a better view to the thing --- that is, body on body on the jump, plus if there was any elbow action etc. Having said that, yes, it is a bad way to end a game.

Even if there was a slight bit of contact, it’s not a call you can make in that situation.

That said, it’s nice to be the beneficiary of one for a change. I’m still scarred by Georgetown seemingly beating ND on ref calls/no calls for ND for years in the Big East days

Foul was bad in the situation - all #55 had to do was any semblance of a box-out in his area vs. standing there and reaching his arm out.

Watching Syracuse - JJ Starling is unfortunately very very good.

Edit: actually looks like he’s been inefficient as hell this year despite averaging 17ppg

Watching UNC move the ball at will, some possessions the ball barely even touches the floor...I had forgotten what competent basketball looked like.

I like basketball; would like to watch some occasionally.

Really hope we are able to purchase some players for next year.

(Wish I was being just sarcastic about that ...... )

(Admin needs to recognize that BBall prominence ALSO helps university publicity etc.)

(Thank goodness for the girls and the Lacrosse...... )

Shrews will be entering year 3 without (probably) his two best players and zero momentum. Another under .500 seems likely.

An absolute atrocious hire.

He'll enter year 3 squarely on the hot seat. I don't see how ND goes through another year like this and doesn't make a change. He's got fresh talent coming in. His first class will officially upperclassmen. If not 2025-26, when?

You know, in these situations (i.e. not a primary focus -- stupidly -- by my university), I don't need championship contention by the team. I genuinely would be happy to see GOOD basketball. Many here might not know, but back in ancient times, ND was rarely a threat for any championship, but just once in a while --- we ended UCLAs run. MANY teams found their streaks smashed by the Magic of the Irish. We were almost legendary for doing that. Where's Dantley? Where's Carr? Where's Tripucka? Hell, where's Ellis, Laimbeer, Tommy Hawkins ... our current nice little tough guard doesn't (for me) rise to any of that. ... give me some reason to watch ... please.

I just don't see Notre Dame becoming good at basketball because of NBA draft eligibility rules. Notre Dames biggest selling point is academics, most of the stars are one or two seasons and then draft candidates so they don't care as much about the degree as football players who play 3-4 years. Also basketball is far less of a team sport then football. In football you can have a really good team filled with 4 star players, in basketball you need stars and the 5 star kids don't stick long.
I agree that it makes it much more difficult in NCAAM bball, but Brey proved on several occasions that it can get done. The draft rules have been consistent, now the NIL stuff makes it even more difficult for schools like ND.

A lot needs to mesh, but getting a few solid classes in a row that stick, to form deep, veteran teems like the 2015 and 2016 elite 8 runs, with just a stud or two like Pat Connaughton and Jerian Grant.

It's a lot to ask for, I know. Problem with Shrews so far is, it appears he's missed on both of his classes so far, and that puts even more pressure on a star-studded freshman class coming in.

I will take this further. I want ND MBB to win a national championship.
